She wrote: ‘Two years ago today I lost the actual love of my life and I’ve had a lot of time to think about why the pain is so fresh and I think it’s because as much as humans might love you it’s not really possible for it to be unconditional, unless that human is a baby – but the magical and unconditional love you get from your soulmate, animal is like nothing else.

‘I feel so lucky to have known and adored Clive and been so adored back.

‘It feels like those little furry grey paws were holding back hell until he just wasn’t strong enough anymore and then came just loss after terror after loss and I’m so grateful for all the years I felt truly protected by him in a way I never have by any human.

‘I used to think because I lost my dad so young people who went on about losing pets were being ridiculous and it’s humbling to always remember that until you’ve had an experience, you really don’t know what the f**k you’re talking about.’

Kate also shared a photo of an art piece her friend did of Clive which he coincidentally showed her on the anniversary of Clive’s passing.

She wrote: ‘My heart is utterly broken and always will be. I miss him so much every day and a few months after he died I said to my mum no one is ever going to look at me in that totally adoring, unjudgemental, benignly amused, utterly interested way again.

‘And she said – your dad used to look at you like that. Anyway, thank you all for loving him and knowing how special he was to me and I’m so glad I got to share his magic with you.

‘God bless, Clive my absolute number one. I miss you so much and, last slide, my dear friend, sent me a photo of this beautiful piece he has done of Clive for me and it happened to be that he texted it to me today two years after he died without knowing today was the day so I’ll take the magic, with so much gratitude.x’

Kate’s Instagram tribute comes after she confessed to sleeping with Clive’s ashes after his death.

The Van Helsing star was ‘totally heartbroken’ when Clive died in June 2024 aged 19 and was clearly still processing her emotions.

After a fan asked on Instagram whether he was cremated or buried, she wrote: ‘Cremated and call me weird but I sleep with his little casket in my bed every night.’

When he died she wrote: ‘My heart is absolutely and totally broken. Every single part of my house feels like he should be in it.’

The self-professed ‘cat person’ and star of the Underworld horror films, got Clive as a kitten.

She regularly dressed him up for Christmas and Halloween – and they were often seen in co-ordinated outfits.

‘We got him when my daughter [Lily Sheen, now 20] was little,’ she told People in 2019.

‘And he usually is shaved into an odd shape, but he’s a recent cancer survivor.’

While speaking about Clive’s personality to the outlet, the mother-of-one raved that his ‘favorite things in the world are suitcases and boxes and bags.’

‘If you bring home a pair of sneakers or take out bag, he’s immediately inside it,’ she gushed. ‘So we got him this suitcase bed, and he loves it so much.’

Beckinsale also stated that she prefers cats because they’re ‘easier’ to care for than dogs.

‘You don’t have to walk around with a bag of poo like you do with a dog, which I hate to walk around with a bag of poo,’ she mused.

Clive’s life of luxury was widely documented on the performer’s social media, which is full of photos of him dressed in hilarious costumes, traveling on private planes and remaining by her side through thick and thin.
