‘I’m just at the point of pure gratitude for the tough stuff because it has shown me how to become truly safe for anyone that needs me and that’s the man I want to be.’

The father-of-two went onto discuss more about trauma and safety, he explained:  ‘Why is being safe so important?

‘Firstly when you come from a background of trauma in whichever form, safety isn’t so easily found just because you’re in a new environment.

‘It’s a long hard road to creating it within yourself so that we don’t run those old trauma responses for the rest of our lives.

‘Keeping people in your life safe as a man isn’t just a physical act of protection and when vulnerability and instability are in play, everything becomes about holding space, providing an outlet, keeping the lines of communication open without judgement and giving the gentle truth when it’s being overlooked.’

Jeff also shared the revelation that he recently had which has allowed him to focus on being capable and strong during tough times, he continued: ‘I think being safe also requires an acceptance of the things we don’t control without trying to lead or fix.

‘I don’t have to be the solution, I just need to be a constant and it’s taken me a while to give myself permission for this but it’s okay that I’m okay at times when somebody I love is going through something difficult. Ready to support but most importantly capable of coping.’

One day before the post, on Christmas Day, Jeff shared a mirror selfie wishing his followers a Merry Christmas whilst sharing a run down of his family’s day.

Kate moved out of their marital home three weeks ahead of the official announcement, with Jeff hinting on social media that his seven-year marriage was over.

He was said to have shared snaps from new countryside property as he detailed the ‘transitional time’ in his life and how he was ‘living in calm’.

In a statement on Instagram Jeff revealed their marriage broke down over summer after they discovered they couldn’t make each other happy.

Alongside a throwback photo from a family holiday, Jeff made reference to the difficult year they had faced due to fractured relations with his son Freddy, 21.

He told fans: ‘I’m so full of love and gratitude for Kate. For all we achieved, for how much we grew, for everything we endured.

‘We separated in the summer and kept it private for as long as we could to give us some time to adjust.

‘For 12 years we have been each others safe space, each others biggest supporters at a time when our lives have been busy, painful & complex. I’m so proud of how hard we worked, how we kept showing up, we gave everything and more.

‘I’m also so full of respect and admiration for the successful career Kate has built and the way she cared for me unconditionally.’

Hours after Jeff’s statement, Kate posted on Instagram Stories, revealing she has been struggling to sleep during a holiday to Las Vegas.

Sharing a pensive-looking photo of herself, Kate wrote: ‘Thought I had beaten the jet lag but the fact that I’m up at 3am eating pickles and scrolling tells me otherwise. Can’t wait to head back to the sun for a bit of r&r.’

Kate has been step-mum to Jeff’s sons Bobby, 22, and Freddy, 21, from his first marriage to Jade Goody, who sadly passed away from cervical cancer in 2009.

Last year the publicist admitted she ‘felt like a failure’ in her marriage to Jeff before realising every couple has their struggles, following their reconciliation.

She gave her thoughts on marriage after being asked by a follower for advice on how to get theirs back on track.

She replied: ‘I think we are all guilty of portraying only the good bits on social media. Anyone who says marriage and raising kids is easy is lying in my opinion. I felt like such a failure until I realised everyone has their struggles.

‘I would never share the details of our relationship, but the one thing I am grateful for is that my husband is just as willing to put the work into himself and the relationship as I am. You can’t ask for anything more than that.’
