Machine Gun Kelly has put his dramatic blackout chest tattoo back in the spotlight, making the rare move of showing off the sprawling inking he debuted nearly a year ago – and once linked to a personal ‘breakdown.’
The rapper, who has recently been spotted spending time with on-off ex Megan Fox, first unveiled the all-black chest piece in February 2024, sharing a striking Instagram photo captioned: ‘For spiritual purposes only.’
The tattoo blankets much of his upper torso in solid black ink, though remnants of his original body art remain visible through carefully placed panels along his arms and within a cross design etched across his chest.
At the time, Kelly – born Colson Baker – linked the extreme tattoo to a turbulent period in his life in his emotionally charged track Don’t Let Me Go. Â
‘Wish I didn’t listen just like I wish they would understand me one time / I had a breakdown and tatted my entire body except one line / Everything’s just fine,’ he rapped.
But on Saturday, the 34-year-old looked far removed from the turmoil he once described, appearing in high spirits as he hit Miami Beach with friends, his jaw-dropping body art fully on display.

Fox, who welcomed daughter Saga in March with MGK, did not appear to be part of the beachside outing.
Kelly, 35, and Fox, 39, welcomed their baby girl in March, just four months after their relationship reportedly ended in November 2024 following claims the actress discovered he had been communicating with other women.Â
Despite the breakup, a source recently revealed Fox has been impressed by ‘how he’s stepped up for both her and the baby,’ fueling whispers that the former fiancés could be finding their way back to each other.
When he revealed the black out tattoo, MGK also noted that the new ink required ’44 needles’ in an Instagram Story.Â
His tattoo artist Roxx told TMZ that the rock star engaged in a ‘spiritual consultation’ before diving into the process.
During this session, MGK conveyed to her that his existing tattoos no longer resonated with his current mindset, calling them ‘chaotic’.
The procedure seemed to be quite a formidable task, and Roxx mentioned that MGK was the ‘toughest client she’s ever had’.
She also said the process started in mid-December, with MGK consistently visiting her private L.A. studio four days a week for thirteen six-hour sessions.Â

The artist still has some work to go on the musician, adding that the project is ‘one of the biggest she’s done in such a short time.’
Roxx took to her own Instagram to share a different photo of her jaw-dropping work on MGK.Â
Echoing her remarks to the outlet, she captioned it, ‘Made some art with @machinegunkelly Never met a tougher one.’
MCK replied in the comment section, writing, ‘thanks for the joy and the pain.’
In June, the musician adorned his already extensively tattooed arm with an additional design.
In August 2021, he unveiled a new matching tattoo with Travis Barker coinciding with the announcement of his sixth album, Born with Horn.
Before this, the duo collaborated on MGK’s pop-punk album, Tickets to My Downfall.Â
Meanwhile, his main squeeze Megan expanded her tattoo collection in 2024 by getting an entire sleeve on her left arm.Â
The tattoo showcases an expansive, intricate black and gray depiction of a soaring phoenix complemented by blossoming flowers outlined in vibrant red ink.Â
The design spans from her shoulder, extending gracefully just beyond her wrist.
