AN EMOTIONAL Holly Hagan has today revealed a “red flag” from the night her sister Darci died – and also her regret over not reaching out to her.
The Geordie Shore star, 33, has been left completely heartbroken following the death of her little sister, who was just 19 when she passed away in October.
The reality star, who recently revealed she was expecting her second child, has opened up about Darci’s untimely death.
Holly revealed how her sister had taken a crystal form of the party drug MDMA when she collapsed on a night out in Manchester.
In the latest episode of Married At First Sight expert Paul C. Brunson’s podcast We Need To Talk, Holly revealed her “regret” over the night Darci died.
The emotional star said: “For some reason that night and I don’t know why I didn’t, I wish I had messaged her, because we know what warehouse project is.
“I don’t know why I didn’t think to message her to say what you doing tonight, let me know what you’re doing tonight, let me help guide you.”
Continuing Holly said: “Because for some reason this night she decided to order, not a pill, but powdered MDMA.
“And as far as everyone knows and talking to her friends, this is the first time she’d ever taken it.
“She went out this night and she had one alcoholic drink and then from what her friends said she poured an amount from the bag into her drink.”
Holly went on: “Now to me that rings a red flag anyway, because you’ve poured crystals into your drink.
“So we have no idea how much and obviously it was too much. So she’s poured an amount into her drink and she’s dancing, she’s okay, but then she throws up.
“She threw up in the crowd, a guy that she’s seeing is there, so he takes her outside with his friend and they sit outside with her, they get her two bottles of fresh water, she throws her drink away.
“She’s apologising cos she’s worried she’s ruined everyone’s night. And they were like ‘don’t be silly’, and they wait with her until she feels okay again – and she does. Makes a few dancing videos apparently. She brushed her hair and she’s okay.”
Holly then revealed how her sister’s condition started to deteriorate.
“She starts getting really paranoid. So she’s not recognising people, she’s screaming like she’s being attacked,” she revealed.
“Next thing you know she had collapsed at the bar. There were 11 medical staff and 2 ambulances there waiting for her. And they were with her within a minute.
“So they did absolutely everything they could. Her best friend has gone outside and got the paramedics, she’s gone into cardiac arrest.
“Got her back within a minute. Got her straight in the ambulance and off to Manchester infirmary.”
DARCI’S FINAL HOURS
Holly described what happed next in an interview at the weekend.
The star opened up about the final few hours of Darci’s life in the hospital.
The star revealed how she was woken in the night and had 130 missed calls from her family telling her to get to the hospital quickly as he sister was severely ill.
“To see my sister, just 19, lying in that same ward was absolutely horrendous,” the heartbroken sister told the Daily Mail.
“I opened the curtain, and I have never seen anything like that in my life. I hope no parent or sibling ever has to see anything like that.
“She had tubes in her nose, in her mouth, she had bruises everywhere from where they had cannulas wherever they could put a cannula, she had tubes, needles in her neck, she had blood pouring out of her nose.”
Holly then revealed that a scan confirmed that Darci was brain dead, and there was nothing more doctors could do for her
Continuing an emotional Holly said: “This will sound awful, but in a way, I can’t say glad, but it was a better option than there being some signs of life and for her to come out of that in a way that wouldn’t have been her, and she wouldn’t have any quality of life.
“That would have been so unbelievably difficult for everyone.
“It being so final, there was nothing else anybody could do, it was closure.
“She was 100 per cent braindead. Sometimes I can say things too bluntly and it can come across in a weird way but unless you have experienced it, you have no idea how you’re going to react or feel. She died at 16:23.”
DARCI’S TRAGIC DEATH
In October, a devastated Holly confirmed Darci’s death in a heartbreaking post.
The emotional statement said: “It is with immeasurable grief and sadness that our baby girl, my baby sister Darci Rose passed away peacefully holding my hand surrounded by family and her best friends.
“She was never in any pain.
“The last four days have been something I hope no family ever has to go through.
“We are traumatised in every sense of the word.”
Last month, Holly revealed she had said goodbye to her sister at her funeral.
If you suspect or know that your child is using drugs
The DSM Foundation’s advice and how to get help:
- Understand the reasons for your concern– could there be other explanations?
- Act as a team – if you have both parents involved stand together in this if you can, or get a partner, sibling or good friend to be with you to offer support
- Ask your child about it – they may be defensive or angry, but they may also be relieved
- Try not to panic, interrogate, accuse or jump to conclusions
- Listen and try to understand – try to keep the conversation one that doesn’t get closed off, and can be come back to if needs be
- Talk harm reduction – if you know your child is using specific substances and is continuing to do so it’s vital they have a good knowledge of how the risks they are taking can be minimised as much as possible
- Talk to others – talk to trusted friends and family, and consider speaking to your child’s school or college, or other professionals involved with them.
- Get professional help for your child if needed – sometimes parents aren’t the best ones to make things better.
- Get help and support for yourself – you can find help and support from Drugfam’s helpline, or find a local support group for families through Adfam.
