Billie Eilish calls out fans who fell for AI version of her at 2025 Met Gala

Billie Eilish has called out fans for slamming her ‘trash’ outfit at the 2025 Met Gala – despite the singer not being in attendance this year.

The Grammy winner, 23 – who recently became emotional after admitting she’s ‘never really felt beautiful’ – jumped to her Instagram stories on Wednesday to address the AI-generated look that has filtered through the internet.

One of the fake looks is shown in a viral TikTok video in which Eilish could be seen in a black corset top as well as a high-low skirt with feathery details on the front.

While nibbling on an ice cream cone, Billie told her 124 million followers: ‘Seeing people talk about what I wore to this year’s Met Gala being trash…

‘I wasn’t there!’ the star exclaimed followed by a laugh. ‘That’s AI. I had a show in Europe that night. Let me be. I wasn’t even there!’

The performer had been in Amsterdam at the Ziggo Dome for her Hit Me Hard And Soft Tour the same night of the annual event in NYC.

Billie has made appearances at the Met Gala beginning in 2021 and also walked the red carpet in 2022 and 2023.

However, she also missed the festivities last year due to preparing to drop her third studio album Hit Me Hard And Soft which released on May 17, 2024.

The last time the Ocean Eyes hitmaker stopped by the gala was in 2023 for the theme Karl Lagerfeld: A Line Of Beauty.

She had opted for a gothic look in a sleeveless black gown which was paired with sheer printed tights and opera-length gloves.

Eilish opened up about past fashion moments during an interview with British Vogue last month in April.

When questioned if she had any regrets to any outfits, the star admitted, ‘Oh, my God, yes! But I do have to give myself credit for always going so hard.

‘I wore like actual bouncy balls with straps on the bottom of my shoes once… But again: I committed to the bit and I regret nothing.’

Elsewhere while talking to the outlet, Billie became emotional when rapper Nicki Minaj asked if she was ever ‘uncomfortable with how beautiful’ she is.

‘Nicki, this question made me tear up a little,’ the singer revealed. ‘Well… like you said at the beginning of that question, Ive never really felt very beautiful or seen myself in that way…

‘So I definitely never struggled with the idea that it would overshadow anything, since I didn’t even really see it myself. I’ve had to really convince myself that I am beautiful. Being a woman is hard.’

Billie has been keeping busy as she continues to embark on the European leg of her tour – which began last year in September.

Her next concert is set for May 29 in Cologne, Germany and the singer will make stops in other countries such as Poland, Austria, Italy, France, Scotland and England. The tour will conclude on July 27 in Dublin.

While talking to People last year, Eilish admitted that she used to dislike going on tours.

‘I’ve had some really dark times on tour. For a long time I was kind of living like it was temporary,’ she expressed.

‘Like, yeah, I’m touring for now and it’s kind of unpleasant, and whatever. It’ll be over. And the truth is, it’s the rest of my life.’

However, Billie has since learned that she can make touring ‘enjoyable’ and a positive experience.

‘I just was very lonely for many years, and I’m not interested in that anymore. I want to enjoy the show as well as my days,’ the star said.

And during her recent conversation with British Vogue, Eilish revealed that she has never experienced ‘stage-fright.’

‘Honestly, I never really have in my life. Being on stage is one of my favorite places to be in the world.’

The music artist further expressed, ‘I get nervous at times but really it’s just nerves from wanting to do my best or just being excited. It’s scary, but I love it.’

Billie’s current tour is in support of her third studio album Hit Me Hard And Soft which dropped last year in May.

The LP contains a total of 10 tracks – including hit songs such as Birds Of A Feather and Wildflower.

The album jumped to the number one spot on a variety of charts around the world, such as UK Albums and US Top Rock & Alternative Albums (Billboard).

It also garnered two Grammy nominations for Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album – but ended up losing in both categories.

The LP has also received Album of the Year and Favorite Pop Album nominations for the 2025 American Music Awards which are set to take place later this month on May 26 in Las Vegas.
