Jessie J admits she ‘never felt more alone’ than in the days after her miscarriage as she opens up on the heartbreaking loss which inspired her comeback single

Jessie J has admitted that the days following her miscarriage were the loneliest of her life as she opened up about the heartbreaking loss.

The singer was left devastated after the baby loss in 2021, before going on to welcome her son Sky with her basketball player boyfriend Chanan Safir Colman in May 2023.

Her emotional comeback single No Secrets is inspired by the loss and in an candid interview with ELLE magazine the hitmaker admitted: ‘I’ve never felt more alone’.

She began: ‘When I found out the baby had no heartbeat – I’m sure I can speak for all women, even if they have people around them – it’s such a lonely feeling. I’ve never felt more alone.

‘For those six days, when I knew the baby had gone but it was still inside me… it was the saddest, loneliest time. It’s letting go of something you’ve dreamt of that now isn’t going to happen.’

Jessie was performing a series of acoustic shows in LA at the time and didn’t cancel her performances despite the heartbreaking circumstances.

The star is diagnosed with adenomyosis, a condition where the lining of the uterus starts growing into the muscle in the wall of the uterus.

The condition is linked to infertility, and she was told her chances of conceiving naturally were slim.

Jessie confessed that when she got pregnant with her son Sky she was terrified she would lose him too.

She admitted: ‘Once you lose a baby, and you’ve been told it’s not going to be easy to carry, I just assumed I was going to lose him too. I had so many scans at the beginning. I spent an absurd amount of money on them.’

On Friday Jessie admitted that the response to her new single had been ‘overwhelming’ as she chocked back tears while singing the heartbreaking lyrics on Capital XTRA Breakfast with Manny Norte.

Speaking about her new release, her first four years, Jessie said: ‘This song is really just a kind of diary entry, conversational, personal verses of me’,

Before going on to sing: ‘I lost my baby, but the show must go on, right. No if, ands or maybe, can I cry for just one night? I’m standing here naked, but I chose the spotlight. Sometimes I hate it, sometimes it feels nice’.

Jessie stopped, overcome with emotion and explained that she wrote the lyrics when she was pregnant, and what how different she feels now following the loss.

The songstress, who is based in LA, went on: ‘I just want to say thank you, honestly. I feel like the consistency of love and the excitement that I’ve felt from the UK in coming back has been so overwhelming and something I didn’t expect. It’s really helping fill my battery and my cup to feel confident about coming back.’

Jessie’s new singe No Secrets, which will be followed by Living My Best Life on May 16, has been described as deeply personal song that also serves as her  raw and unfiltered reintroduction to the industry.

Speaking about the release she said: ‘This song is super personal but I hope it can be relative to anyone’s life. I’m a very honest person; I say it how it is, and I share with the world a lot of things that most people don’t but always with a little humour.

‘Humour is key” The music has really gotten me through’.

In 2023 Jessie shared a heartfelt message about dealing with grief, saying it is something that can ‘swallow us whole’.

Alongside a video of her singing she wrote: ‘Grief is honestly a s****y, weird and very personal journey. It can come up and swallow us whole when we least expect it.

‘It’s not something you can prepare for or practice. It’s something so many of us have in common but have to navigate so uniquely and so often goes unspoken.

‘Just something that lives beneath the surface or in a cloud in our minds. It can be so consuming and dark and lonely. I’m hugging you.’
