Jon Bon Jovi asked for advice about becoming a grandfather after his son Jake, 23, and daughter-in-law Millie Bobby Brown, 21, adopted a baby girl.
Millie, who wed Jake last year, made the surprise announcement she had adopted in a social media post shared on August 21.
Jon became a grandfather for the second time when his son Jesse, 30, welcomed a baby girl, Blair Lucy Bongiovi, earlier this month with his wife Jesse Light.
And the rocker, 63, asked for advice in Cbeebies Parenting Helpline podcast as well as giving his own take on being a grandpa.
He asked expert Philippa Perry: ‘Hi, I’m Jon Bon Jovi and I have a question having recently become a grandparent. When can I give my child advice on how to parent and when should I butt out?’
Philippa replied: ‘You should give advice when it’s asked for and you should butt out. I’m not quite sure what that means, but it probably means keep quiet. You should butt out the rest of the time.’

Later Jon went on to reveal the best advice he has got on becoming a grandparent.
He said: ‘The best advice I’ve got so far is to know when not to give advice because you realise that you know they’re going to learn how to parent in their own way and there’s no manual when they drop a baby off and the grandparents leave on that first night.
‘I learned that the hard way. And, you know, our kids are going learn how to parent their way, and we just have all get through that together, but I’m looking forward to watching my children become parents and our grandchildren entering our our lives.’
Jon recently admitted he still sees his four children as being babies themselves but was looking forward to a ‘unique Christmas.’
Speaking in an interview with The Mirror, he said: ‘It’s fantastic being a grandad… it’s another chapter.
‘I’ve just kind of got used to dealing with my kids being grown. I still see them as two and three, and then they’re in their thirties and bring a baby around and you’re like, wow, that’s a reinvention.’
Jesse, 30, married TV producer Jesse, 31, in Las Vegas in May 2024 after a two year engagement.

The couple took to Instagram to make a joint post to make the happy announcement and shared a snap of their daughter
On July 20, Millie dropped a hint there was a baby in their life when she shared Instagram post of Jake pushing a pram.
They confirmed the new in August in a post which read: ‘This summer, we welcomed our sweet baby girl through adoption.’
‘We are beyond excited to embark on this beautiful next chapter of parenthood in both peace and privacy. And then there were three. Love, Millie and Jake Bongiovi.’
The pair married in May 2024 and the couple had discussed having children, adoption and their plans on having a big family.
Earlier this year the actress said she wanted to be a mother.
During an appearance on the Smartless podcast, which is hosted by Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes, and Will Arnett, the actress said that although she knows she is ‘really young,’ she is looking forward to motherhood.
She continued: ‘My mum actually had her first child at 21, and my dad was 19. And you know, it’s been my thing since before I met Jake,’ she explained.
‘Since I was a baby… I wanted to be a mom just like the way my mom was to me. And my nan, my grandmother is, she was a huge part of my life.
‘And so, yeah, I mean, Jake knows how important it is to me and, of course, I want to focus on really establishing myself as an actor and as a producer, but I also find it’s so important to start a family for me personally,’ Millie continued.
‘It’s a huge thing. Jake was like, we cannot do that until we get married. So that was his thing.’
Millie then added: ‘And my thing was, I really want a family. I really want a big family.
‘I’m one of four. He’s one of four. So, it is definitely in our future, but, for me, I don’t see having your own child, you know, as really any different [from] adopting.’
She went on to say: ‘My home is full of love for anyone and anything, and so that is what we kind of stand by, Jake and I, our energy in the house is “the door is always open”, and we want everyone to feel really comfortable.’
