Hugh Jackman is unrecognizable as he prepares for major new Hollywood role

Hugh Jackman was completely unrecognizable in behind-the-scenes footage of him preparing for a major new role.

The 56-year-old became a globally beloved celebrity more than 20 years ago, starring as Wolverine in the X-Men franchise.

His rugged looks and smoldering performances made him an instant fan favorite – but he refused to be confined to a narrow casting ‘type.’

After becoming an action star, he demonstrated his versatility by lending his talents to musicals, such as the films Les Misérables and The Greatest Showman and Broadway revivals of Oklahoma! and The Music Man.

Now, after reprising his most famous role in last year’s Deadpool & Wolverine alongside Ryan Reynolds, the Oscar nominee and two-time Tony winner has vanished into the part of one of English folklore’s most iconic figures.

He posted an Instagram video of himself in the hair and makeup chair, where the team expertly transformed him into his character.

Hugh’s video was taken during the making of the upcoming drama The Death Of Robin Hood, in which he plays the legendary title character in a dark spin on the story.

In the hair and makeup chair, he was seen sporting a massive handlebar mustache that was then shorn off to leave him totally clean-shaven.

It was unclear whether he will be barefaced for part of the movie and have the mustache for another, or whether only one of those looks will be seen in the film.

‘There is a depth, a camaraderie and a spirit to the entire cast and crew of The Death of Robin Hood,’ he wrote in his caption.

‘Thank you for this wonderful experience. It is an honor and a privilege. Thank you Ireland!!! Your beauty knows no bounds.’

He leads a formidable cast including Killing Eve actress Jodie Comer, Nosferatu star Bill Skarsgard and The White Lotus alum Murray Bartlett.

The Death Of Robin Hood will see Hugh’s character mortally wounded, in the care of a mysterious woman as he reflects on his bloody past.

Michael Sarnoski, who previously helmed the Nicolas Cage drama Pig and last year’s A Quiet Place: Year One, is directing the upcoming movie.

Meanwhile a source recently claimed that Hugh hopes to marry his girlfriend and former Broadway co-star Sutton Foster, 50, whom he is pictured with at the 2022 Tony Awards

He previously teased that the film ‘has a sort of different version of the epic Robin that we’re used to, while also a very intimate story that’s going throughout, as well. So, it’ll have a little bit for everyone in that sense,’ via Collider.

Meanwhile a source recently claimed that Hugh hopes to marry his girlfriend and former Broadway co-star Sutton Foster, 50.

Sutton and Hugh starred in a Broadway revival of The Music Man together throughout 2022, and were rumored to have conducted an extramarital affair that led to his split from his wife Deborra-Lee Furness in September 2023.

Meanwhile Sutton filed for divorce from her husband, Ocean’s Eleven screenwriter Ted Griffin, in October 2024 after 10 years of marriage.

She and Hugh went public as a couple this January, and it has now been claimed that he intends to marry her once his divorce is finalized.

‘Hugh had a lot of back and forth while he was in Australia for the holidays but ultimately, he realized how much he missed her,’ an insider told Sky News.

‘The magic came flooding back when they reunited and ultimately marriage is the end game for these two. Hugh is clear he wants to make Sutton his wife.’

Hugh and Deborra-Lee met in 1995 on the Australian television series Corelli, and he proposed four months later, marrying her in 1996.
