Zootopia 2 made a near-record as it grossed an astonishing $38.5 million on Black Friday which was just one of the very impressive numbers the animated put up in its first few days in theaters.
The animated Disney sequel topped the box office with a $156 million opening weekend in the North America.
And alongside its incredible launch overseas, the optimistic rabbit and the wily fox smashed records with its global start of $556 million.
The impressive total made for the fourth-biggest worldwide debut in history following big budget superhero flicks Avengers: Endgame, Avengers: Infinity War, and Spider-Man: No Way Home.
The Disney darling hopped over another family movie — namely the follow-up musical adaptation Wicked: For Good starring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande as the Witches of Oz.

Zootopia’s super successful release was largely in due part to the great reception in China, where it achieved the top animated opening of all time with $272 million.
Zootopia 2 also nabbed the second biggest launch in movie history.
The furry characters only follow on the heels of Disney and Marvel’s smash hit Avengers: Endgame, which debuted to more than $300 million in China back in 2019.
The Saturday after Black Friday was also a record-smashing success as Zootopia 2 became the biggest launch for a Hollywood title since May 2021, grossing $104 million just on the single day alone.
The buddy cop comedy film is a sequel to the original animated movie, which was released in March 2016.
That year, Zootopia won the best animated feature at the Oscars and also won the Golden Globe Award in the same category.
The sequel reunites police officer Judy Hopps, an optimistic rabbit voiced by Ginnifer Goodwin, and Nick Wilde, a wily fox voiced by Jason Bateman.
In the first movie, Judy Hopps becomes the first rabbit to join the police force in a mammal metropolis, the city of Zootopia.

The sequel has the pair, now both detectives, on the trail of a twisting case involving a mysterious reptile ‘who turns the mammal metropolis of Zootopia upside down.’
The synopsis for Zootopia 2 reads as follows: ‘Testing their growing partnership like never before, they go under cover in new parts of town to crack the case.’
The animated movie, directed by Jared Bush and Byron Howard, features voice acting from an all-star cast including Shakira, Ke Huy Quan, Macaulay Culkin, Quinta Brunson, Fortune Feimster and Patrick Warburton among many others.
