Fan furious as Disney makes decision on Coco sequel

Disney CEO Bob Iger announced that Coco 2 is on the way from the house of the mouse – and it has caused a strong reaction from fans.

While many feel the sequel is ‘unnecessary’ others were pained at how long they will have to wait for it, as it won’t be released until 2029.

‘While the film is just in the initial stages, we know it will be full of humor, heart and adventure,’ Iger said, during the annual shareholders meeting. ‘And we can’t wait to share more soon.’

The 2017 Pixar movie introduced a generation of kids to 12-year-old Miguel, who dreams of becoming a musician in spite of his family’s generations-old ban on music.

Miguel travels to the mystical Land of the Dead to unlock the real story behind his family history.

But it seems even die-hard fans of the movie have been left dismayed at the prospect of another movie.

Over on Reddit, fans expressed their feelings about the announcement.

One wrote, ‘Oh noooo!! It ended perfectly! Why do they have to keep going for more $$ and messing things up?!’

Another fan responded, ‘Remember when Inside Out 2 became the highest grossing animated film of all time. That’s why.’

A third person expressed, ‘Pixar is focusing too hard on sequels. Pixar took away the wrong lessons from the COVID-era films doing bad.

They continued: ‘Onward did bad because it was too close to the shutdown. Then put all the good films on Disney+ only (Luca, Soul and turning red) and then Lightyear (which sucked and flopped) in theaters so now we can only get sequels :/

‘Also wish more people had seen elemental. Such a cute film that deserves more love.’

Someone else asked ‘is nothing sacred,’ while another said, ‘James Cameron approaching a chalkboard somewhere. Writes an “S” Cocos.’

‘Coco 2: Remember Me?,’ referenced the fact that Miguel’s grandmother died in the original film (as well as the title of the Oscar winning song from Coco), promoting someone to write, ‘How many times are they gonna kill that woman?’

'While the film is just in the initial stages, we know it will be full of humor, heart and adventure,' Iger said. 'And we can't wait to share more soon'
