Madeleine West reveals empty supermarket shelves in the wake of ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred

Madeleine West has shared footage of her local supermarket in the wake of ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred, revealing fruit and vegetable shelves stripped bare.

The pregnant Neighbours star, 45, and her six children reside in Byron Bay.

Madeleine’s video showed the entrance to the supermarket almost devoid of anything to eat, after the cyclone’s slow track towards Queensland and Northern NSW whipped up days of panic buying before the severe weather hit.

Cucumbers, priced at $2.70 a pop, appeared to be one of the only fresh fruits or vegetables in stock on Tuesday.

‘Cucumbers in the lunchbox…again,’ Madeleine captioned a striking video of the barren shelves at her Coles supermarket.

With recovery efforts now in full swing, Aussie shoppers are still facing supply shortages — even kilometres away from the disaster zone.

Shocking footage uploaded to TikTok shows frenzied shoppers have emptied the supermarket shelves of toilet paper, bread, fresh fruit and vegetables, and other essentials.

One shopper at Woolworths in Byron Bay said the scene was ‘giving Covid.’

Madeleine rung in International Women’s Day a little differently this year, flaunting her massive baby bump and sharing a moving message with her followers amid the devastation of Topical Cyclone Alfred.

The actress took to Instagram on Sunday to share a picture of her heavily pregnant belly while sharing a few words reflecting on ‘a rough few days’ braving the elements in Byron Bay.

Madeleine, who was dressed in a pink floral dress, captioned the post: ‘Seeking shelter and anticipating that this could be a repeat of the #2020 floods.’

Going through all the thoughts that crossed her mind, she wrote: ‘What would we be going home to? Would the house go under again?’

She went on: ‘No power, a fridge full of spoiled food. Fear. Exhaustion. An aching back from shifting valuables to safety.’

However, when thinking of the sad circumstances of this year’s International Women’s Day, Madeleine remembered that ‘so many women have it so so so much worse.’

‘This International Women’s Day there were no long lunches here. No purple balloons. No dressing up. No inspiring keynote addresses,’ she wrote.

‘Just an incredible coalition of women, and men, doing everything and anything they can to help each other. I’m so grateful,’ she shared.

Madeline owns a home in Suffolk Park near Byron Bay, which she bought for for $4.6million in 2022.

The Neighbours alum took to social media last week to express how ‘terrified’ she was of the impending Tropical Cyclone Alfred.

‘Just want to confess that, like many right now, I don’t feel brave, fearless or resilient. I feel small, concerned and a bit scared,’ she wrote on Instagram on Wednesday.

She also posted a throwback photo from March 2022 of her helping in the clean-up efforts of the devastating Northern NSW floods and captioned it with supportive words for her community.

‘Stay safe everyone. No matter what happens, we’ve done it before, we will do it again,’ she said.

‘As we wait to see what havoc Alfred wrecks, I’m sending buckets of love to everyone in SE QLD and NE NSW today.’

Madeleine shares five daughters and one son with her ex-partner, celebrity chef Shannon Bennett.
