Ryan Reynolds’ Rare Comment on Son Amid Box Office Bomb Talk

Ryan Reynolds made a rare comment about his and Blake Lively’s son while talking about the couple’s infamous box office bomb, Green Lantern, where they famously met.

Over a decade since he made the 2011 superhero movie, Reynolds shared insight into what one of his young children thinks of his widely panned project from his early career.

When asked to identify a past failure in his career, which turned into a learning lesson, the 49-year-old actor answered: ‘Creatively speaking, it’s hard to say. Someone might say Green Lantern.’

‘You laugh, but my son, it’s his favorite movie and he watches it every f***ing day,’ he added while making an appearance at The Wall Street Journal’s CMO Council Summit on Tuesday, November 18.

His admission comes as he and his wife are faced with her ‘nuclear’ $161 million court clash with her former It Ends With Us co-star and director Justin Baldoni.

Reynolds originally met his wife on the set of Green Lantern, and the pair went on to get married in 2012.

The longtime couple are parents to daughters James, Inez, Betty and son Olin, now two.

‘Do you understand the work I’ve had to do to get to the place where I can just pass by that screen and not go, “Well, we could have [done something to make it better]?”‘ he asked the laughing audience.

Their movie Green Lantern was widely considered a critical and commercial failure, which was five years before Reynold would go on to find comic book success with his Deadpool series.

‘But you know, that was a time in my life when I was, “Yes, sir. No, sir. How high can I jump, sir?”‘ he said while reflecting on his earlier creative approach on movies.

‘You sit there and you go, “I have really strong thoughts and opinions on a creative matter,” and someone else on another movie, I remember, made a creative decision, and I thought, “Well, that’s a nail in a coffin that I alone will lie in.”

‘And it’s true. They don’t say, “This producer’s movie flopped,” or “This director’s [movie flopped].”

‘That’s me. So if I’m going to be on that headline, I’d like to be the architect of my own demise — or success,’ he continued.

His latest admission was not the first time Reynolds spoke candidly about how the Green Lantern movie did not turn out like he wanted.

He previously admitted that it took him a whole decade later for him to watch the movie in full.

Back in 2021, he live tweeted about watching th emovie in full for the first time and admitted that the project was ‘not perfect.’

‘I only ever read my parts of the script so this is genuinely exciting for me to watch,’ he said at the time as he revealed he was spending St. Patrick’s Day of that year by watching his 2011 flick.

‘This protagonist seems reckless but likable,’ he joked about his character Hal Jordan a.k.a. the Green Lantern from the DC Comics. He also praised the cast and joked about realizing his now-wife Blake Lively was also in the movie.

‘Oh boy. Tragic childhood flashback sequence killing a beloved parent. Designed to instill a level of depth and hard fought empathy for our hero. Disney perfected this move,’ he tweeted.

‘This was not bad foreshadowing for my life as a dad,’ he later added over a still of him and Lively’s characters standing face to face in a tense moment.

After finishing his watch, he tweeted: ‘While it’s not perfect, it ain’t a tragedy. Next time I won’t wait a decade to watch.’
