Timothee Chalamet has brought Kylie Jenner as his date to this year’s Academy Awards, but some fans think it’ll cost him the Oscar thanks to the ‘Kardashian curse.’
The biggest night in Hollywood is here, with celebrities descended upon the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, California, this evening for the 2025 Oscars.
The 97th Academy Awards, which is hosted by Conan O’Brien, is streaming live on ABC and Hulu.
Among the list of acclaimed actors and actresses nominated for their performances this year is Chalamet, who received a Best Actor nod for his portrayal of legendary singer-songwriter Bob Dylan in the biopic A Complete Unknown.
Ahead of the ceremony, the 29-year-old actor walked the red carpet wearing a monochromatic butter yellow Givenchy suit with a matching button-up shirt underneath.
He accessorized the look with a pair of black boots, along with a Cartier solitaire diamond choker and rings on his fingers.
Although the Kylie Cosmetics founder skipped the red carpet, she was pictured shortly after sharing a sweet moment with the Oscar nominee.
The couple, who’ve been romantically linked since April 2023, were seen sharing a kiss. Another photo showed Jenner’s mouth open wide, seemingly in astonishment, as they chatted in their seats next to each other.

Jenner pulled a shocked expression as she and Chalamet chatted before the Oscars ceremony
For the occasion, Jenner wore a floor-length black bedazzled gown with cut-outs at the bodice. She wore her signature black hair down, parted to the side with playful waves.
While a majority of fans on X/Twitter were elated over the couple’s Oscars date night, some people claimed that Jenner’s presence at the ceremony will cause Chalamet to lose his Best Actor nomination.
‘Everyone saying he’s going to lose because he brought her,’ wrote one X/Twitter user.
‘He goin home empty handed,’ another person suggested.
‘Ohhhhh he’s losing that Oscar,’ a third user said, while someone else wrote: ‘He’s not winning.’
It seemed their reasoning was due to the ‘Kardashian curse,’ an online theory that every man who gets romantically involved with one of the Kardashian-Jenner sisters suffers a fall from grace.
‘I hope the Kardashian curse is fake now,’ said one fan, in response to photos of Chalamet and Jenner at the Oscars.
‘They told him don’t bring Kylie she got that Kardashian curse,’ another person wrote.

The famous Kardashian-Jenner clan previously hit back at the ‘Kardashian curse’ in an episode of their Hulu TV show, The Kardashians, as Jenner’s sisters Kim and Khloe Kardashian slammed the theory as ‘super sexist.’
Meanwhile, Jenner previously explained the theory in an older episode of the show, saying: ‘The Kardashian curse is every male figure that comes and dates a Kardashian. Their life kind of just goes downhill after that.’
Indeed, Chalamet did end up losing the Oscar award for Best Actor to The Brutalist star Adrien Brody.
Nominated alongside Chalamet and Brody for the best actor category was Colman Domingo for Sing Sing, Ralph Fiennes for Conclave, and Sebastian Stan for The Apprentice.
Prior to this year’s Oscars, many fans believed that Jenner would be absent from the ceremony because ‘she is still mourning about the death of her best friend,’ her beloved hairstylist Jesus Guerrero.
‘Her best friend just died suddenly. So I don’t think so. That’s why he took his mom to the last award show,’ one person suggested.
The Keeping Up With the Kardashians alum is grieving after Guerrero shockingly passed away at the age of 34 on February 22. Following his death, Jenner posted an emotional tribute dedicated to her close friend.
‘Jesus was more than my friend,’ she wrote in a lengthy caption alongside photos of them together over the years.

‘I’m going to miss you so much. More than any words can say,’ Jenner wrote to her ‘angel’ on Instagram
‘He was a light in my life, a source of laughter, comfort, love, and unwavering support,’ she said.
‘I don’t know how I would have made it through the last almost decade without him by my side. He had a way of making even the heaviest days feel lighter.’
Jenner continued: ‘Thank you, Jesus, for always being there for me, for lifting me up, for being my friend. The pain of losing you is just unbearable and I don’t know how to move forward without you but I know great grief is born only of great love. And I loved you so much.
‘You were the best person, with a talent that was unmatched. A true artist. You inspired so many, and you always will. Your words, your laughter, your kindness, your beautiful spirit will live in my heart forever,’ she added.
‘I’ll cherish all our moments together. Every laugh and hug. I wish I could hug you again. I laid in your bed the way you used to lay in mine, talking for hours. I would give anything for one more deep talk.

Guerrero’s sister, Gris Guerrero, previously revealed to Us Weekly that her brother died ‘very suddenly’ and explained that a cause of death is not yet known.
She said that his loved ones ‘don’t know what got him sick or what [the] sickness was.’
Guerrero had been accompanying Jennifer Lopez on a business trip before his death. He also worked with Katy Perry, who penned a touching tribute dedicated to Guerreo, as well as Jessica Alba, Shay Mitchell, Blackpink’s Rosé and Rosalia.
