Billie Eilish’s brother and music collaborator Finneas O’Connell has opened up about his ‘most cringeworthy run-in with a celebrity’ in an interview with The Guardian.
The 28-year-old Grammy-winning musician divulged that he had an embarrassing moment with Taylor Swift at her 32nd birthday party.
He confessed to the publication, ‘I said “Thanks for coming” to Taylor Swift. At her birthday party. She said, “Thank you so much for coming,” and I said, “Thank you for coming!”’
The moment took place in 2021, when the now-35-year-old pop star threw a bash alongside the band Haim’s Alana Haim, whose birthday is two days after hers.
Finneas previously opened up about the awkward ordeal in a 2022 Q&A with fans.
At the time, he had been engaging with his Instagram followers when someone asked him to share ‘your most embarrassing moment.’

Via Stories, he explained that he had ‘meant to say “thanks for inviting me” or whatever, obviously’ to Taylor.
Finneas sat down with The Guardian to promote his music with The Favors bandmate Ashe.
Another tidbit the hitmaker revealed about himself in the interview is his knack for impersonations.
Asked what he’s ‘secretly good at,’ he said, ‘Impressions. And I’m not doing one for you. The one I do the most is probably Benny Blanco.’
Elsewhere in the conversation he revealed if he could be on any reality television show it would be, ‘Extreme Makeover: Home Edition with Ty Pennington. I loved Ty Pennington growing up.’
And the star spilled the ‘best piece of advice’ he’s ever been given.
‘A guy who’s a mastering engineer once said to me, “Listen man, if something ever goes wrong, you just rock out.” Just rock out, man. I sometimes think, damn, I really am doing that. I had a show recently where shit was going wrong, and I was like: time to rock out, dude. What’s my alternative here? Oh, my flight’s delayed four hours? Let’s rock out, dude,’ he shared.
In May, Finneas cast Kate Hudson in the music video for his song 2001.

Taking to Instagram Stories afterward, he shared a note of gratitude for Kate, writing, ‘And Kate!!! Dream of dreams!!! Best actor, best person, thank you one billion times for doing this video w us!’
The video was inspired by Stanley Kubrick’s 1968 sci-fi movie 2001: A Space Odyssey and conceptualized by his longtime girlfriend Claudia Sulewski.
Finneas gave her a special acknowledgement, writing via Instagram Stories: ‘Just a lil Claudia appreciation post – I asked her out of nowhere if she wanted to direct a video for 2001.
‘I said, “You can do whatever you want, I don’t even have to be in it.”‘
The sweet anecdote continued, ‘She was shooting a TV show at the time and trying to go to sleep early for a super early call time – I got into bed and she said “I think I have a good idea” and she had literally thought of the ENTIRE VIDEO.’
Finneas has so far collected ten Grammys throughout his whirlwind career and collaborations with his sister Billie.
Most recently the brother and sister earned four Grammy nominations at the 2025 ceremony for Billie’s Hit Me Hard and Soft album.
