Mariah Carey’s Huge Annual Earnings from Her Christmas Jingle

Mariah Carey’s hit jingle All I Want for Christmas is You has been a holiday season favourite ever since it debuted in 1994.

And now it has been revealed the song has helped the 56-year-old US-born pop diva build an estimated fortune of $540 million.

According to The Economist, the catchy tune earns Mariah $3.8 million (US$2.5 million) every year.

Another estimate of the royalties is $4.6million (US$3 million) worth of Christmas cheer to Mariah’s bank account annually.

Meanwhile, the song, which has been streamed 2.24 billion times on Spotify, earned Mariah an eye-watering $92million (US$60 million) in royalties upon its first release, Forbes reported back in 2022.

Mariah has used her annual Christmas cash to help fund her lavish lifestyle.

Back in early 2016, Mariah and her then fiancé, Australian billionaire James Packer, moved into a six-bedroom mansion in the exclusive gated community The Oaks in Calabasas, Los Angeles.

Rumoured to be two houses away from Kourtney Kardashian’s abode, the pair reportedly spent $350,000 (US$250,000) a month to rent the property.

It boasted nine bathrooms, a pool and a basketball court.

The high-profile pair made headlines less than a year later when news broke in October 2016 that their romance was over.

In 1999, Mariah reportedly bought two pads in New York’s exclusive Tribeca neighbourhood – one a penthouse she snapped up for $8.5 million (US$5.5 million) and another apartment in the same deluxe block she bought for $5.4 million (US$3.5 million).

After marrying her second husband, Nick Cannon, Mariah lavished $136.7 million  (US$88.3 million) on a 12-bedroom Los Angeles mansion they dubbed the Fleur de Lys.

They sold it in 2014 for $136.7 million (US$88.3 million).

Mariah and Cannon, who finalised their divorce in 2016 after separating in 2014, also owned another Los Angeles mansion, which was sold off in 2015 for $13.9 million (US$9 million).

The hitmaker also had a mansion with Cannon located in the Bahamas.

In 2023, Mariah racked up a loss on her Atlanta estate after it was sold for $6 million (US$3.92 million).

James revealed his ‘trainwreck’ split from singer Mariah was one of the darkest periods of his life.

The Sydney-born billionaire made the candid disclosure in an episode of 7NEWS Spotlight last year.

He said that by October 2016, the relationship had unravelled in spectacular fashion.

‘Mariah and I had broken up and she thought I’d planted a story in a magazine, which I hadn’t, and it made her look bad,’ Packer told 7NEWS Spotlight reporter Liam Bartlett.

‘She was threatening to say things about me and so it was um … it was a trainwreck. It was a trainwreck.

‘The times that I’ve been at my worst, you know, I’ve had a lot on my mind.’

Mariah did not include any reference to Packer in her 2020 autobiography, The Meaning of Mariah Carey, because she claimed the book only contained ‘relationships that mattered’.

‘If it was a relationship that mattered, it’s in the book. If not, it didn’t occur,’ the US hitmaker told The Guardian in 2020.

When pressed on the fact she had been engaged to James, Mariah said: ‘We didn’t have a physical relationship, to be honest with you’.
