Kate Beckinsale has revealed her close relationship with daughter Lily Sheen’s boyfriend, amid a ‘tough’ few years for her family.
The British actress was back on TV screens on Monday night, appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live! to promote her new movie Wild Cat.
Kate, 52, lost her beloved mother Judy Loe to cancer in July, 18 months after the death of Judy’s second husband and Kate’s stepfather Roy, who died in January 2024.
The Serendipity has star has admitted she has been ‘paralysed’ with grief, but told Kimmel that lighter moments have come from some unexpected places.
‘We’ve had a tough couple of years. Both my parents passed away within the last few years,’ the actress said on the US talk show, and went on to praise daughter Lily’s boyfriend, explaining: ‘Literally the only bright spot in the whole time came from him.’
Whilst she didn’t name Lily’s beau, Kate then launched into a bizarre story about how he bought some laughter into her life, claiming:Â ‘He laid two eggs in a week is what the bright spot was.’

Kate said that the first time it happened, he was genuinely scared’ and then one week later Lily sent her a text with the news that ‘he’s done it again.’
She then showed Kimmel a photo of one of the eggs to which the shocked host exclaimed: ‘Your daughter’s boyfriend is the Easter Bunny – there’s no other way to explain this!’
Kate admitted she ‘got very involved’ in the egg mystery ‘because I really did need a distraction because everything was so horrible.’

Judy’s cause of death wasn’t confirmed; however, Kate previously revealed her mother had been battling stage four cancer for the last two years.
Kate revealed her new tattoo of her mother on her arm, which featured a sketch of the actress in 1971.
She got the tattoo below an inking that read ‘Fatherless sc*m’ in tribute to her late father Richard Beckinsale, who died in 1979, and her stepfather – a reference to David Bowie’s 1979 song Fantastic Voyage.
Alongside the post, she penned: ‘It everyone would stop dying I wouldn’t have so many tattoos.
‘Thank you @_dr_woo_ for this beautiful one of my mama ( and @endrystymest for Peepo and ‘fatherless sc*m’).’
Last month Kate shared poignant snaps from her beloved mother Judy’s funeral.

She reflected on the day as she shared a selection of images from the ceremony which took place at Chiswick House.Â
She was joined by her daughter Lily, 26, who she shares with her ex Michael Sheen – who also attended to support her.Â
Lily and Michael were seen sweetly hugging in one of the snaps Kate shared. Kate and Michael were a couple from the mid-1990s to 2003.
In the caption Kate said she still felt ‘blindsided and devastated’ by her death and heartbreakingly admitted she often still goes to call her before realising that no one will answer.Â
Kate also shared that her mother hadn’t wanted people to wear black at her funeral and that she wished for a ‘celebration of her life’.
In her lengthy and emotional caption Kate said: ‘Dearest Mama. The fact that you have had to have a funeral at all is wrong and ludicrous. You are the biggest lover of life, the most energetic, the most vital, the most joyous.

Judy’s death came 18 months after the death of Judy’s second husband and Kate’s stepfather Roy, who died in January 2024.Â
He was hospitalised in Los Angeles in December 2023 after suffering ‘a massive stroke’ while battling two forms of cancer, which he was diagnosed with in the summer prior.
Tragically this wasn’t the first time Judy was widowed after the shock death of her first husband Richard Beckinsale in 1979, when Kate was just five-years-old.
The actor, famed for his roles in popular shows Rising Damp and Porridge, suddenly passed away on March 19, 1979 at the age of just 31, leaving behind his devastated wife Judy and Kate and her sister Samantha.Â
