Cipriani accuses wife of deceit in divorce split

Danny Cipriani has hit out at his estranged wife Victoria Rose after she filed for divorce, accusing her of manipulating him from the start and ‘hoodwinking’ him into their relationship.

Last week, Victoria, 42, filed for divorce, nine months after she and the ex rugby player, 36, split, as she accused him of spending £600 a month on drugs and messaging other women during their marriage.

But Danny has now hit back, denying her claims and instead blaming Victoria for their split, saying their four-year relationship was built on lies.

In a bombshell new interview, he claimed that Victoria had been deceiving him since their first meeting, telling outlandish tales about herself, including that she’d been headhunted by MI5 and had a multi-million pound inheritance.

He told The Sun: ‘When I look back now, I realise how much she hoodwinked me. But I really wanted to believe her. I feel like I don’t know who she is. I don’t think I ever did because I have no idea what is the truth.’

But Danny has now hit back, denying her claims and instead blaming Victoria for their split, saying their four-year relationship was built on lies

Danny claimed their relationship had been ‘nothing serious’ until Victoria became pregnant, which ‘truly changed him’, and caused him to miss the ‘warning signs’.

The couple tragically lost their son, who they named River, in June 2020 at 23 weeks.

He went on to say that his loved ones began to ‘worry about him’ after they began to question things Victoria had revealed about her past and warned him he had to ‘get out’.

Danny said: ‘We went through a lot of heartbreak and it brought us closer. I wanted to help Victoria and I thought I loved her. But by the end of the relationship, I felt she was manipulating me’.

‘All my friends and family were like, “Oh my god, finally you can see what she is doing to you?” They were all so relieved and were like, “You have to get out”.’

Victoria, who has two children of her own and is also a grandmother, said they then went through gruelling rounds of IVF to try to have a child.

She previously admitted shouting ‘he’s my husband’ when Danny became close with an unknown women at a self help event.

But Danny said he was actually sat with a ‘long term friend’ who was a ‘spiritual lady’ and nothing untoward was happing, claiming Victoria simply lost her temper as a result of being drunk.

In an interview last week, Victoria claimed that Danny had been unfaithful during their marriage, saying he had messaged other women and admitted she felt ‘humiliated’ when he moved on with actress AnnaLynne McCord.

She explained their marriage became increasingly strained when he stopped playing for Bath, claiming she noticed messages from other women on his phone.

She confessed she felt she had the ‘wool pulled over her eyes’ after ignoring his previous Lothario past.

Months after their split, Danny confirmed his relationship with AnnaLynne, 36, with the couple documenting their whirlwind relationship on Instagram, leaving Victoria feeling ‘humiliated’.

She also explained that his drug use was also to blame for her filing for divorce, saying Danny would blow through £600 a month on drugs.

She said he would eat mushroom laced chocolate bars, but ‘would function so well’ that she wouldn’t know if he was on them or not.

Danny has previously admitted to taking cocaine, a crystallised toad psychedelic and to having so many magic mushrooms that he became convinced Victoria was trying to kill him.

However, in his latest interview the former athlete denied Victoria’s claims about his frequent drug use.

He insisted that he smokes weed two and three times a month and admitted he recently went to a retreat in Costa Rica, where he drank Ayahuasca – a famous South American psychoactive brew with hallucinogenic properties.

Danny said the psychedelic helped him ‘heal’ and become the ‘happiest I have ever been’.

At the time of his split from Victoria, Danny released a statement to announce the news, telling his Instagram followers that he ‘only wished the best’ for his ex.

Victoria then shockingly revealed that she was only ‘made aware of the situation at the same time as the public’ in a now deleted post.

The media personality opened up about the difficult time and apologised for her ’emotionally charges response.’

She wrote: ‘Danny publicly announced our split without any prior notice or discussion with me.

‘I was made aware of the situation at the same time as the public, and this has caused me a great deal of pain. I apologise if my reactions and responses have seemed reactive or emotionally charged.

‘The truth is, I am still going through a difficult time, and it is challenging for me to see Danny speaking about our separation publicly while I have not yet found the strength to process it, adjust or heal.

Victoria concluded: ‘I really don’t want to be caught up in the fanfare. Sorry for any hurt I have caused.’
