Matthew McConaughey has traced his happy family life – married to model Camila Alves with three children – back to a ‘wet dream’ he once had.
When he was in his 30s facing the ‘red light vision of being a lifelong bachelor,’ he went to sleep and received a ‘spiritual sign’ about how to find the right woman.
In the dream, the Failure to Launch star was celebrating his 88th birthday with his 88 children and the 22 women with whom he conceived them.
They all gathered together for a massive group shot in front of ‘a large-format box camera,’ and when the photo was taken he had an orgasm.
McConaughey, 56, was reminded that what he wanted in the end was to be a father, and was given a ‘message to surrender, to quit trying so intentionally to find the perfect woman for me, and, rather, concede to the natural selection process of finding her, her finding me, or not,’ he wrote in his newsletter Lyrics of Living.
As a result he ‘stopped looking’ for the woman he wanted to marry, and three months later he was introduced to Camila for the first time.

Before he met Alves, he was linked to a string of Hollywood bombshells including Penelope Cruz, Sandra Bullock, Ashley Judd and Renee Zellweger.
‘I had met, spent time with, and seriously dated some wonderful women in my life, many of whom I am still friends with today, but ultimately they were all stops, no stays,’ McConaughey wrote in the latest instalment of his newsletter.
‘In my mid-30s, I was looking for a lifetime lover, a best friend, and a mother-to-be. I was looking for more, I was looking for the one, I was looking for her,’ he added.
‘Then I had a wet dream,’ he said, before laying out the vision he had of his 88th birthday with his 88 children, their 22 mothers and 22 cars for good measure.
They were all gathered together for a celebration at his country house, with the birthday boy relaxing in a rocking chair on the porch.
Although he never married them, every ‘woman was serene and satisfied. Every child was smiling, laughing, and healthy. We all knew one another very well,’ he wrote.
‘Each mother and I shared an idyllic memory, the children roosted upon my lap. We hugged, we kissed, we laughed and joked, we cried tears of happiness,’ he added.
‘They all gathered around me on the porch for a family photograph, and we looked toward a large-format box camera on a tripod at the top of the driveway. Three! Two! One! Then I came,’ McConaughey informed his fans.
McConaughey and Alves are pictured this April with all three of their children – their daughter Vida, 15, and their sons Levi, 17, and Livingston, 12
In his latest book Poems & Prayers, McConaughey, pictured this month, advised readers that the ‘best thing you can do for your marriage’ is to switch from a king-size to a queen-size bed
‘The red light vision of being a lifelong bachelor had come to me in a greenlight wet dream. It was a spiritual sign, a message to surrender, to quit trying so intentionally to find the perfect woman for me, and, rather, concede to the natural selection process of finding her, her finding me, or not. So I quit looking for her,’ he explained.
‘Then she came. Three months later, I met Camila. Twenty years later she’s still the only woman I’ve ever wanted to take on a date, sleep with, or wake up next to.’
In 2006 at the age of 37, he and Alves started dating and they welcomed their first two children Levi, 17, and Vida, 15, during their engagement.
They made their way down the aisle in June 2012, six months before she gave birth to their now 12-year-old son Livingston, their third and youngest child.

He explained his rationale while promoting the new volume in September, saying: ‘We have kids and we go to our friend’s house and he has one of these double king-size beds put together and all the kids sleep in the bed,’ via Fox News Digital.
‘The wife’s on one side with her side table and the husband’s on the other side and it’s great when you got all three kids, but all of a sudden the kids get too big. They’re out of the bed,’ added the Tropic Thunder star.
‘I wake up one morning…I’m looking over there and Camilla’s like a football field away man. Then you go to bed at night, like you want to snuggle up and…. “Well, we’ve got to cover you up. Come about 12 feet and I’ll come 12 feet,”‘ said he.
‘You’re like, man, this damn king-size bed is not good for the marriage, man. Get rid of that son of a b****. So we got a queen size where we’re shoulder to shoulder. I’m telling you, it’s good for your marriage.’
