A-Rod Reflects on Relationship with Cameron Diaz

They dated over 10 years ago.

But the world got a rare glimpse into Alex Rodriguez and Cameron Diaz’s relationship on the latest episode of the baseball icon’s docuseries.  

The New York Yankees alum, 50, has romanced some of the world’s most desirable women, including Diaz, who he dated from 2010 to 2011. 

The relationship was alluded to on the third episode of his HBO docuseries, Alex vs. ARod, with the baseball icon recalling how he had a lot on his plate at the time of their relationship. 

Rodriguez began dating Diaz shortly after winning the 2009 World Series, which took his career to a whole new level.   

‘I feel like the World Series came and went,’ he said. ‘I was basically at the pinnacle of my baseball career. But there was a lot going on at the time.’

As he said that, images of Rodriguez with Diaz appeared on the screen. 

Rodriguez met Diaz in May 2010, a few years after ending his marriage to Cynthia Scurtis, with whom he shares two daughters. 

The couple were inseparable for almost a year and a half and were frequently pictured on holiday together with showbiz friends including Naomi Campbell.

Cameron had been introduced to the sportsman’s two children and had reportedly even moved to Miami to be closer to him.

But despite two attempts at the relationship, they split in September 2011.

Cameron, who is now married to Benji Madden, told InStyle shortly afterwards: ‘When I was going through a bit of a heartbreak a little while ago, I said to a friend, “Wow, this really hurts!”

‘And he said to me, “That just shows you what your capacity for loving is.”

‘I would rather have my heart broken a thousand times than never to love at all. I have so much love to give — I’m not empty of love, I’m full of love.’

Rodriguez was faced with memories of the relationship in 2021 as he covered the Tampa Bay Rays and Boston Red Sox game for Fox Sports. 

A clip of him being fed popcorn by Diaz at the 2010 Super Bowl appeared as the sportscasters discussed one of the Rays players snacking during the game. 

Kevin Burkhardt said, ‘These Rays are so chill. Nelson Cruz said, “I could use some popcorn.” So he got his buddy some popcorn and then he started eating it during the game.’ 

He continued, ‘It’s not the first time people had been eating popcorn in the middle of the game,’ prior to a throwback clip of Rodriguez being fed popcorn by ex Diaz while the pair watched the 2010 Super Bowl. 

The three-time baseball MVP, who at the time had recently split from Jennifer Lopez, replied during the lighthearted chat, ‘KB, that’s maybe why I’m single.’
