Cardi B wanted a special ‘keepsake’ after welcoming her baby boy with boyfriend Stefon Diggs on November 4, but the results are turning off many of her fans.
Just days after giving birth, the 33-year-old rapper commissioned Juliane Corona’s Mommy Me Encapsulation to have her umbilical cord made into a piece of heart-shaped gold jewelry.
The fashion piece set the rap artist back $1,000, according to the US Sun.
The jeweler shared to Instagram a graphic video of the process it took to create the singer’s token of love.
The footage began with the blue-dyed umbilical cord being threaded into a heart-shaped wire and molded into shape by the jeweler’s pink-gloved hands.
Extra pieces of the umbilical cord were snipped off using a pair of gold scissors and the two ends pressed together and flattened to achieve desired shape.

As stated on the company’s website, then ‘your baby’s umbilical cord dehydrated in the shape of a heart, and then dipped in gold chrome.’
The gold heart’s creator showed off her handiwork intended for Cardi B and wrote in the caption, ‘Where her journey started… turned into a keepsake she’ll treasure forever.’
‘The umbilical cord is the very first connection between a mother and her baby — the lifeline that nourished, protected, and carried them through every moment of pregnancy.
‘Creating this keepsake is always such an honor, but doing it for Cardi and her sweet baby again means the world to us.
‘Turning something so meaningful into a piece that can be held, remembered, and cherished forever is one of the most special parts of what we do,’ the jeweler finished.
Fans recoiled over the images with one commenting, ‘Ahh- nope! This is not cute at all’ and another writing, ‘It’s giving… umbilical pretzel.’ A third chimed in, ‘My heart turned a different color’ and a fourth deadpanned, ‘I’ll pass.’
But not everyone was averse to the singer’s desire to preserve her umbilical cord.

Cardi B – whose real name is Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar – has not revealed the name of her new baby but said it’s ‘cute’ in an interview posted on High Snobiety’s Instagram on November 14.
This is her first child with the New England Patriots wide receiver, 33. She is also mom to daughter Kulture Kiari, 7, son Wave Set, 4, and daughter Blossom Belle, 1, from her former marriage to Offset.
Meanwhile, the mom-of-four has been promoting her new album Am I the Drama?
‘Starting over is never easy but it’s been so worth it,’ she shared in a November 13 Instagram post.
