Horror fans are less than impressed after Anya Taylor-Joy was replacedy by Lily Rose-Depp in the remake of iconic film Nosferatu.
A reboot of the classic 1922 horror film, the movie stars Bill Skarsgård as the vampire Count Orlok and Lily as Ellen Hutter, the young woman Orlok fixates on.
The film’s official trailer was released Monday and shows Ellen suffering from a horrific nightmare seemingly about the vampire.
Anya was originally involved in the project along with singer Harry Styles but both made the decision to exit the film.
Development on the film began years ago with Anya first linked to the project in 2017. Harry Styles was linked in 2022 before he also dropped out.

After the release of the new trailer, fans expressed their disappointed that Mad Max star Anya is not involved in the movie.
Taking to X, fans wrote: ‘We could’ve had Anya for Nosferatu’… ‘Damn I really wanted to see Anya in Nosferatu’… ‘Still Anya should’ve been in Nosferatu’.
Others added: ‘It should’ve been Anya why did you drop from Nosferatu, I don’t think I could forgive you’.
‘I’m so p****d, Anya would have been perfect in Nosferatu, I lost so bad’.
‘I am kinda living for lily rose in the nosferatu teaser, but i can’t help but to imagine how good anya would have been…’

The rest of the cast includes Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Emma Corrin, Ralph Ineson, and Simon McBurney.
‘Yeah, it’s a scary film. It’s a horror movie. It’s a Gothic horror movie,’ the film’s director Robert Eggers told Empire. ‘And I do think that there hasn’t been an old-school Gothic movie that’s actually scary in a while.’







Taking to X, fans wrote: ‘We could’ve had Anya for Nosferatu’… ‘Damn I really wanted to see Anya in Nosferatu’… ‘Still Anya should’ve been in Nosferatu’
He continued: ‘And I think that the majority of audiences will find this one to be the case.’
The filmmaker, 40, raved that ‘Lily-Rose is absolutely phenomenal’ and this remake of the tale is ‘even more Ellen’s story than previous versions.’
Eggers noted that Bill Skarsgard, who is responsible for Lily-Rose’s terrified expression, was completely ‘transformed’ in his role.
‘I’m fearful that he might not get the credit that he deserves because he’s just… he’s not there,’ Eggers teased. ‘He felt like honouring who had come before him. It’s all very subtle.’
He continued: ‘But I think the main thing is that he’s even more a folk vampire. In my opinion he looks like a dead Transylvanian nobleman, and in a way that we’ve never actually seen what an actual dead Transylvanian nobleman would look like and be dressed like.’
Nosferatu will be released on December 25, 2024.
