Big Brother Australia’s First Evictee Calls Out ‘Fake’ Romance, Viewers Agree

Drama has hit a peak since Big Brother Australia said goodbye to its first housemate.

Controversial contestant Michael Downs was evicted on Sunday and has set tongues wagging after issuing a scathing final message regarding new couple Holly and Colin.

Before leaving the house, the 47-year-old left a farewell missive for his fellow Big Brother participants – and he didn’t hold back when it came to the much-talked-about romance.

Michael revealed that he didn’t think Colin, 21, and Holly’s, 31, connection would survive outside of the house, adding that the model was ‘playing a game’ by starting a relationship with the hopeful MMA fighter.

He went on to say that she had the aim of getting ‘more notoriety outside of the house’ through the on-screen alliance.

Michael then added that the strategic move was ‘pretty obvious to everyone in the house except Colin’.

The blunt confession certainly had an impact on Colin, who in his piece to camera began to question his romance with Holly, saying they’d be in ‘completely different worlds’ on the outside.

‘I can’t even comprehend why she’d like me,’ he confessed.

‘If something is too good to be true, it usually is, right?’

And it seems Michael and Colin aren’t the only ones that have doubts regarding the relationship – the show’s fans do too.

Taking to X – formerly Twitter – viewers praised Michael for calling out the relationship as fake.

‘Michael is back in the house to drop some home truths! And he actually woke up right after he left, what perfect timing!’ one person wrote.

Another chimed in: ‘Michael is all talk the moment he leaves but bro is 100% right.’

‘Holly and Colin just don’t make sense one bit! Yes sweetie, your mum would tell you to keep your distance,’ one fan agreed.

One person penned: ‘Michael ate both Holly and Colin up so effortlessly.’

‘Unfortunately….. Michael clocked Holly,’ another tweeted.

Ten has been approached by Daily Mail for comment.

It comes after Holly was caught ‘playing for the cameras’ last week.

Fans accused the model of using her much-younger love interest as a way of staying in the house after a video showed her acting completely differently once spotting the cameras.

In the clip, Holly and Colin were sitting separately from each other as one of their housemates spoke about not being ‘in it for the money’ when it came to the show.

However, as soon as Holly made eye contact with the camera, her demeanour changed.

The reality star then quickly became touchy with her on-screen beau, pulling him in for a cuddle.

The video, which was reposted on TikTok, saw a flurry of fans take to the comments section to point out Holly’s tactics on the show.

‘Couples make it to the end smart move!’ one person simply wrote, implying she was trying to win Big Brother by staging a romance.

Another fan added: ‘She is playing for the cameras.’

‘There’s no way she will make it to the end when it’s clear it’s absolutely not genuine,’ another person predicted.

Other viewers took pity on Colin, accusing Holly of ‘using him’ to get ahead.

‘She’s a mess and using him,’ a disgruntled fan wrote, with another chiming in: ‘Bye Holly. Stop playing with Colin’s emotions.’
