Rachel Lindsay regrets not getting prenup before marrying Bryan Abasolo

In the wake of her ongoing divorce, Rachel Lindsay is regretting her decision not to get prenuptial agreement.

The Bachelor Nation star married Bryan Abasolo after he won Season 13 of The Bachelorette in August 2017, for which Lindsay served as the grand prize.

But by not taking the appropriate legal actions to protect her finances prior to getting married, the Dallas, Texas native, who’s actually a lawyer herself, is now facing the possibility of paying her estranged husband spousal support as part of their ongoing divorce.

‘A lot of people are like, “You’re a lawyer. … Do you have a prenup?” I don’t,’ the reality star revealed on the Hidden Gems With Natasha Parker podcast on Thursday.

She goes on to explain her thought process for her inaction, revealing, ‘The reason I didn’t is because the place I’m in now … financially … is totally different than when I got married. We were more leveled, and I wasn’t in California.’

Rachel Lindsay, 39, is having second thought about her decision not to go forward with a prenup agreement after Bryan Abasolo, 44, filed for spousal support amid divorce

Lindsay, 39, maintains she told her then-fiancé that she thought a prenup was a good idea, but that they weren’t ‘on the same page.’

In regards to it being in ‘a different time’ when they tied-the-knot in August 2019, she admitted she was leading more with her heart over logic.

‘I didn’t want it to be a bigger issue, so we didn’t have one,’ she added. ‘Hindsight is 20/20. I would’ve done it.’

In his divorce filing in January, Abasolo listed New Year’s Eve as the date of his and Lindsay’s official separation, for which he cited ‘irreconcilable differences’ as the reason for their split.

The petition for divorce with the courts after four years of marriage also states that the chiropractor is seeking spousal support.

Lindsay told podcast host Natasha Parker in Thursday’s episode that while her split itself was ‘amicable,’ she thought Abasolo’s filing was ‘unnecessarily messy.’

The public announcement of their divorce in January came less than two months after Lindsay revealed that she and Abasolo had plans to try and grow their family one day with the addition of a baby.

‘It’s something that we want,” the attorney shared with E! News in November. ‘It’s been harder than I thought it would be. We’re trying. You think, “Oh yeah, when I’m ready, I’ll make it happen.” But it’s just been a little bit more difficult for us. But we’re definitely starting the process.’

Abasolo noted in the court documents, previously obtained by Page Six, that he wanted an undisclosed amount of spousal support.

A prenuptial agreement, also known as an antenuptial agreement or premarital agreement, is a legally binding contract that a couple signs before marriage or a civil union, according to The American College Of Trust And Estate Counsel.

It allows the couple to control many of their legal rights and what happens to their assets, debts, and spousal support if the marriage ends.

The goal of a prenup is to protect each party’s financial interests.
