Project Shares Shocking Update Five Months After Being Axed: ‘New Faces Ahead’

The Project has shared a shock update after getting axed earlier this year.

The program, which was replaced by 10News+ in June, took to Instagram and Facebook on Sunday to reveal a new addition to their news line-up.

‘It’s been a minute, but yes, I’m still alive,’ the post, which announced some new online content for the show’s official social media account, began.

‘We’ve changed the password, and thanks to your support, I’ve roped in some new mates to help make sense of the madness we call news.

‘Starting tonight, you’ll also see some new faces tackling life’s big mysteries! First up, it’s Melbourne comedian Louis Hanson with a festive question for us all, that’s dividing households.’

They finished off the post, writing: ‘And again, thank you for sticking around. We appreciate it more than you’ll ever know.’

Fans flooded the comments section begging for The Project’s return to Aussie screens.

Another begged: ‘Please bring back The Project – it was the best show on TV.’

‘Really miss the Project. Nothing else compares,’ one person penned.

In June, The Project was officially axed after 16 years, airing for the final time on June 27.

It was replaced by the hard-hitting 10 News+ current affairs program, which has struggled in the ratings.

Network 10 announced the news, sharing a post to Facebook thanking viewers for their support before announcing the show’s replacement.

The news show, which had been in a ratings free-fall since Carrie Bickmore left her seat as host at the end of 2022, aired ‘nearly 4,500 episodes’ when it was revealed it would be leaving screens.

An image was shared online of Waleed Aly, Sarah Harris, Sam Taunton and Georgie Tunny smiling as they sat together behind the news desk.

‘After nearly 4,500 episodes The Project will finish up on June 27. More details from 6.30pm on 10,’ the caption said.

‘For nearly 16 years, The Project has been Australia’s destination for the news when you want a little bit of a giggle.

‘Well, we have loved every second but all good things come to an end and so are we on June 27.

‘To everyone who has watched, supported, donated money to help families across Australia, worked on the show or just liked a social post. Thank you.’
