Millie Bobby Brown Responds to Photographer’s ‘Smile’ Demand on Red Carpet

Millie Bobby Brown Responds to Photographer’s ‘Smile’ Demand on Red Carpet

Millie Bobby Brown isn’t one to take nonsense from anyone — not even on the red carpet.

The 21-year-old Stranger Things star wasted no time snapping back at a photographer who shouted at her to ‘smile’ while she attended the London premiere of the fifth and final season Thursday at the Odeon Luxe Leicester Square.

‘Smile? You smile!’ Brown fired back in a viral clip before marching off down the carpet, leaving onlookers stunned.

The moment, seen here, quickly set social media ablaze.

One critic on X wrote, ‘Millie got mad at the photographers and left the carpet… ok Chappell Roan,’ referencing another celebrity who’s had tense red carpet moments.

Others rushed to her defense, pointing out, ‘She’s a young mom who had no idea how hard getting married and adopting a baby would be. Give her some grace y’all.’

Brown has come a long way since first appearing on Stranger Things at age 12 in 2016.

Today, she’s married to Jake Bongiovi, 23, after tying the knot in May 2024, and the couple welcomed a daughter via adoption this summer.

The red carpet showdown comes after reports that Brown filed a harassment and bullying claim against her Stranger Things co-star David Harbour, adding extra drama to another tense Stranger Things screening.

Millie stunned in a busty black lace off-the-shoulder gown with a plunging neckline and feathered detailing at the event last week.

Her dyed-red hair was styled in a chic bun with delicate curls framing her flawless makeup, completed with tall heels and dangling diamond earrings.

David kept it classic in a black pinstripe suit, white shirt, and matching tie, finished with black leather derbies and his signature salt-and-pepper walrus mustache.

Despite recent reports of conflict, the pair appeared perfectly at ease on the carpet, laughing and posing together like nothing had happened.

Two weeks ago, The Mail on Sunday revealed Harbour faced an internal inquiry following Brown’s complaints.

Crucially, the complaints did not include any allegations of sexual impropriety.

So far, the outcome of the investigation is unknown, though it hasn’t prevented the two actors from making their public reunion at the season five premiere in Hollywood.

A source told The Mail on Sunday: ‘Millie Bobby Brown filed a harassment and bullying claim before they started shooting the last season. There were pages and pages of accusations. The investigation went on for months.’

Netflix declined to comment on the revelation, as did representatives for Brown, while representatives for Harbour and Stranger Things creators the Duffer Brothers didn’t respond.

In response to the streamer’s silence, the source said: ‘Netflix will never comment on an internal investigation, but the fact they’ve not denied it speaks volumes.

‘Stranger Things helped put Netflix on the map. Millions of fans around the world have been anticipating the finale,’ they added. ‘No one wants anything to take attention away from that.’

Meanwhile, despite the cheating allegations that have swirled around Harbour in recent weeks amid the release of his estranged wife Lily Allen’s new album West End Girl, which was released late last month, a source said she had stood by him in the wake of the bullying claim.

‘Lily supported him throughout it all. It was a brutal time,’ the source said.

As a result of Brown’s complaint, she was accompanied by a personal representative on set for the final season, which will release its first four episodes on Netflix on November 26.

The streamer tends to release show seasons in their entirety in a single drop, unlike several other streaming services that have lately returned to a traditional one-episode-per-week format in order to spread out audience excitement and interest over a longer timeframe.

However, Netflix appears to have changed up its usual approach, as it will release a second batch of three episodes on Christmas day, followed by a final feature-length finale to be released in simultaneously in theaters and on the streaming service.

‘It will be a theatrical event,’ a Netflix source told The Mail on Sunday. ‘Nothing is going to overshadow this, not even the leading man’s private life.’
