Jeremy Renner Joins Knives Out 3: Marvel Star’s First Film Post Near-Fatal Accident

Jeremy Renner has joined the star-studded cast of Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery – marking his first film since his near-fatal snowplow accident.

The 53-year-old spent months embarking on a grueling recovery process after the incident, which occurred on New Year’s Day 2023.

He mounted his comeback with a new season of his series Mayor Of Kingstown, which is slated to air its premiere on Sunday.

Now, he has taken a role in the third movie in Rian Johnson’s acclaimed Knives Out franchise, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Each film stars Daniel Craig as detective Benoit Blanc, with a new murder and a new star cast of suspects in every instalment of the franchise.

News of Jeremy’s casting comes just one day after it emerged that Scandal star Kerry Washington will also feature in the third film.

The Crown actor Josh O’Connor, Priscilla star Cailee Spaeny, Fleabag alum Andrew Scott and legendary actress Glenn Close are also attached to the project.

Rian Johnson, who writes and directs all the Knives Out films, announced last week that he was ‘about to go into production’ on the third feature.

Although he has not disclosed an exact release date, he revealed on X, formerly Twitter, that the movie will bow sometime in 2025.

‘I love everything about whodunnits, but one of the things I love most is how malleable the genre is,’ he wrote. ‘There’s a whole tonal spectrum from Carr to Christie, and getting to explore that range is one of the most exciting things about making Benoit Blanc movies.’

The first Knives Out movie premiered in 2019, starring Daniel amid a glittering cast that included Jamie Lee Curtis, Chris Evans, Ana De Armas, Don Johnson, Toni Collette, Molly Shannon, LaKeith Stanfield and the late Christopher Plummer.

Daniel returned to the franchise with the 2022 Netflix release Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, featuring a whole new array of supporting players.

Glass Onion boasted such names as Kate Hudson, Edward Norton, Dave Bautista, Janelle Monáe, Leslie Odom Jr., Madelyn Cline and Kathryn Hahn.

Jeremy has not starred in a film since 2019, when he played his Marvel role Hawkeye in Avengers: Endgame and had a voice role in the animated movie Arctic Dogs.

Since then, he has booked a number of television roles, including the Hawkeye series on Disney+ and his acclaimed turn on Mayor Of Kingstown.

However, his career was dramatically interrupted on the first day of 2023 when he suffered a harrowing accident that nearly cost him his life.

The Hurt Locker star was crushed by a 14,330 pound snowplow while trying to prevent it from running over his nephew in rural Nevada.

He sustained a wide array of serious injuries, including over 30 broken bones – and he later disclosed that one of his eyes even popped out.

Jeremy embarked on a grueling months-long recovery process, which he documented on social media to the awe of his fanbase.

‘The body is miraculous,’ he wrote in the caption of a workout video. ‘Even though I feel like the Tin Man, needing oil for all my new joints (hips, knees, ankles, tibia etc). Encouraged after this warm up to press on (don’t tell my PT).’
