It’s become an ongoing occurrence for celebrity offspring to carve out a career in showbiz, whether it’s modelling, reality TV or following in the footsteps of their footballer fathers.

Jamie Carragher’s daughter Mia is the latest nepo baby to outshine her famous dad with her glittering acting career.

The term ‘nepo baby’ refers to the children of celebs who are often thought to have benefited from their parents’ fame and connections to get ahead. 

Aged just 21, Mia has taken on the leading role of Katniss Everdeen in the brand new The Hunger Games: On Stage at the Troubadour Theatre in Canary Wharf.

Back in the 1990s, footballers like Jamie, David Beckham, Michael Owen and Alan Shearer were taking fame by storm.

Now their children are stealing the spotlight, with David’s children Brooklyn, 26, Romeo, 22, Cruz, 20, and Harper, 14, making headlines on the daily.

Each sibling has carved their own path in different industries. 

Brooklyn has pursued a career as a chef while Romeo followed his father in football before taking a liking to modelling.

Cruz, more recently, has launched a career in music and his youngest Harper looks to follow her mother Victoria Beckham in the fashion and design industry.

Jamie Carragher’s daughter Mia

Mia Carragher, the daughter of former Liverpool footballer and pundit Jamie, has carved out her own career in the world of showbiz.

Mia made her debut as Katniss – a role made famous by Oscar winning actress Jennifer Lawrence. 

The nepo baby, whose mother is Jamie’s wife Nicola Hart, was supported by her proud parents at the opening night premiere on Wednesday evening.

Ahead of her debut, Jamie, 47, shared a gushing post to his daughter Instagram: ‘Good luck tonight Mia, so proud of you’.

She’s no stranger to screen work, having appeared in the independent film One Night in Istanbul, Channel 4 drama The Gathering, and will soon be seen in the new Playground Entertainment series Maigret. 

Before rising to fame Mia studied at The Lee Strasberg Theatre and graduated from Tring Park School for the Performing Arts.

On landing her biggest career moment yet, Mia said: ‘I am so excited and honoured to be playing Katniss. This is a dream-come-true role, and I cannot wait to see the production come to life.

‘From being a huge fan of the films, I feel so lucky to be a part of the Hunger Games world, especially working with Mathew Dunster and an incredible creative team.

Aside from her remarkable acting career, Mia has gained over 94,000 followers on Instagram from posting snippets from her holidays, glamorous lifestyle and sweet moments with her famous dad. 

Meanwhile, she posts funny videos and vlogs on her Tiktok account, where she has amassed a further 59,200 fans.

The actress has also attended many star-studded events including London Fashion Week, Football For Change charity gala and Kylie Minogue’s An Audience With Kylie.

Last month she made a brief appearance while her dad was on punditry duty for CBS’ Champions League coverage.

After his phone run live on air, Jamie answered: ‘Hiya babe, are you okay? I’m on TV.’

Micah Richards joked: ‘Well, there goes the Emmy,’ before Jamie explained that Mia was simply asking where her mother was. He told his daughter: ‘I don’t know, I’m in London, babe. I’m in the studio.’ 

Scott then asked Jamie if Mia would like to go on loud speaker, to which she appeared to oblige.

After being informed by Micah that she had interrupted the live show, Mia’s opening words were: ‘Oh my God, I am so sorry. I didn’t have a clue [he was on live TV].’

Jamie then hilariously asked: ‘Are you not putting the dodgy box on?’ as CBS’s coverage is only available in the United States.

Host Kate Scott then took her opportunity to ask Mia: ‘I am so interested, your dad can be a little bit spiky on TV, what’s he like at home?’ to which Mia replied: ‘He is lovely.’

After her response was met by a crescendo of awws in the studio, the Liverpool legend said: ‘I love you more than anything my girl. What a star.’

He added: ‘There is nothing this girl can ever do wrong. I can’t ever shout at her, I find it hard to shout at you don’t I?’

David Beckham’s brood

David Beckham’s brood has without doubt taken the term nepo baby by storm.

The football legend shares his four children with Spice Girls icon and fashion designer Victoria Beckham, aka Posh.

Each child – Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz and Harper – have all embarked on careers in various fields like modeling, music, fashion, football and cooking.

Victoria has previously defended her children being given the term ‘nepo babies’, having grown up in a household as famous as theirs.

She told The Sun: ‘It’s not their fault, give them a chance.’

Victoria’s eldest, Brooklyn, has been at the centre of this debate, having explored careers in modelling, photography, and cooking. 

Meanwhile Romeo has pursued modelling, Harper is building an interest in beauty and fashion, and Cruz is stepping into the music world as a singer-songwriter. 

Cruz recently revealed he had recorded an album before releasing his debut singles Optics and Lick The Toad. 

The singer reportedly signed with the top music management company C3, who worked with the US indie group The Strokes. 

Brooklyn launched his £15-a-bottle hot sauce Cloud 23 in October last year, inspired by his ‘journey as a tastemaker’. 

In 2023, it was revealed Brooklyn was worth a staggering £10million after snagging contracts with Tiffany & Co, Pepe Jeans and plant-based milk, Silk.

Sources close to Brooklyn say he also makes money from his much-watched cooking videos.

He has also previously fronted campaigns on his Instagram account, which has a following of 16.4 million, with new Japanese sake brand, WESAKE, which he co-founded; Twinkly, a lighting brand; Wendy’s burger chain; and Silk Nextmilk, a plant-based milk.

Romeo took to the Paris Fashion Week catwalk last year for the Balenciaga show as he cemented his foray into fashion. 

Romeo reportedly had left his Premier League football club, despite being offered a new contract by Brentford FC in June, to pursue a fashion career.

A promising football prospect in his youth, Romeo drifted away from the game after being released by Arsenal in 2015 and turned his attention towards a career in tennis.

However, Romeo announced he intended on a return to football in 2020 before joining dad David’s MLS franchise Inter Miami the following year.

Romeo’s first big break in the fashion world came when he was just 10-years-old as he took his first modelling assignment for Burberry.

Following in his mother’s footsteps from a young age, Romeo was undaunted on set as was described ‘amazing, incredible and a little joy’ who kept everyone entertained as he was ‘bouncing around’.

His passion for fashion was cemented from an early age as he accompanied Victoria on shoots and mingling amongst a host of top designers.

David and Victoria’s youngest child Harper is reportedly stepping into the world of beauty entrepreneurship.

The fashion designer, 51, is said to have hinted that her daughter could become the next Kylie Jenner, 28.

According to The Sun, the name ‘HIKU BY Harper’ has been filed under two trademark applications via H7B Limited – a business Victoria incorporated in her daughter’s name, referencing Harper’s full name, Harper Seven Beckham.

A source told the publication: ‘Harper loves fashion and make-up and has already started doing make-up tutorials.

‘The plan is to create a brand aimed at the younger market, taking inspiration for pop culture and Korean beauty.

‘The Beckhams are incredibly encouraging parents when it comes to their kids’ talents and exploring their hobbies and business ideas. They’re a very entrepreneurial family.’

Harper has become increasingly visible on her mother’s Instagram, and earlier this year even launched her own account.

Victoria even previously joked that Harper will either become a beauty mogul or a stand-up comedian, saying her daughter is ‘hilarious’.

Last year, Harper made her public speaking debut when she presented her mother with a prestigious award for entrepreneurship at Harper’s Bazaar’s annual Women of the Year event.

She said: ‘I’m so nervous. Especially as tonight’s a school night. Hopefully, this isn’t going to get me in trouble.

‘My amazing mummy has built an incredible business from the ground up and has shown me the value of working hard.

‘But above all, she’s taught me to always be kind and, even though she has a million things to do, she rarely misses school.’

Michael Owen’s daughter Gemma

Gemma Owen is no stranger to the spotlight, having starred on series eight of Love Island in 2022.

The daughter of footballer Michael Owen, 22, is also an international dressage rider for Great Britain and regularly flaunts her lavish life style to her 1.7million Instagram followers.

Aside from her dressage career, Gemma is also the proud owner of her swimwear and jewellery brand OG Beachwear.

When she returned home from Love Island, Gemma quickly signed a six-figure deal with clothing brand Pretty Little Thing.

Ahead of her first stint on the show she admitted that her England legend father ‘wasn’t happy’ about her signing up but he trusted her not to ’embarrass’ him.

The swimwear brand owner told Daily Mail at the time that Michael resisted having a ‘tantrum’ after learning she will be on the dating show, and eventually gave his blessing, saying: ‘I’m not going to tell you what to do.’

She said: ‘I still wouldn’t say that my dad is buzzing about me doing Love Island.

‘He’s very supportive in whatever I decide to do. He didn’t have a massive tantrum or anything like that.

‘He was pretty chilled, he trusts me not to do anything to embarrass him. He took it quite well.

‘He didn’t say I couldn’t do this or give me any dos or don’ts. He said I’m not going to tell you what to do, I trust you, you have never given us a reason not to trust you, go for it but I will always have my family’s thoughts and opinions in the forefront of my mind because we are all super close and they are the most important people to me.’

The nepo baby, who recently moved out of her £4million family mansion, is now dating new boyfriend Red Morgan.

Per the 2024 Sunday Times Rich List, Red’s father Steve – who is the founder and chairman of housebuilder Redrow – has a net worth estimated at £915million.

Alan Shearer’s daughter Hollie

While most nepo babies favour modelling or influencing, Hollie Shearer has embarked a career in music.

Hollie’s father Alan is one of the world’s most famous footballers, having played for the England squad and holds the record for most goals scored in the Premier League’s history.

Now a BBC pundit, when previously asked about his daughter’s romance with Joe, he quipped: ‘I’m just glad it’s not a footballer.’

Hollie, 30, chose to pursue her dreams of music instead of sport, and her top single on Spotify has garnered more than 1.3million listens. 

She has had a passion for singing since an early age and is an alumnus of BIMM, a prestigious British music institute. 

The singer-songwriter is influenced by country music and has named Kacey Musgraves, Dolly Parton, Lewis Capaldi and John Mayer as some of her biggest inspirations.

Hollie’s burgeoning music career is built on songs such as Leave Right Now, Love You Better and Thank You.

Denise Wise’s daughter Amber

Amber Wise, 21, who appeared on Love Island in 2023 and his the daughter of former Chelsea Captain Dennis, has embarked on an influencing career.

Her father is a Chelsea legend who lifter two FA Cups with the London club, and is no stranger to reality TV himself after appearing in I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here in 2017. 

With 124,000 Instagram followers, Amber shows off her plush lifestyles and brand deals.

Before catapulting herself into the spotlight, Amber was a graphic design student in Buckinghamshire.

After her stint on the dating show over the summer, Amber returned back to university to complete her degree. 

The star entered the house on Day 27 during Casa Amor and had a brief flirtation with Sammy Root before he went back to Jess Harding, with the couple going on to win the show. 

Amber revealed that her prospects of love outside of the show are much more promising as she has had several footballers slide into her DMs since she has returned to the UK following her stint on the show.

Amber admitted her dad Dennis, 58, has instructed her to ‘stay away’ from the athletes.

Speaking exclusively to Daily Mail, Amber said her dad is ‘not impressed’ with the potential suitors.

Carla Ginola is the daughter of legendary French footballer David, who is also known as his role as a sport pundit, model and thriving as an actor.

The 31-year-old is a regular contender at Fashion Weeks in Paris, London and New York, showcasing her svelte model physique.

The son of former professional footballer Gifton Noel-Williams, Dejon, was the latest nepo baby to appear on Love Island this year and find love with Meg Moore.

Following in his father’s talented footsteps, Dejon is a semi-professional footballer which he does alongside his job as a personal trainer, influencing and modelling.

Gifton is a football manager and former footballer and has previously introduced his son to all sorts of famous connections.

Dejon revealed that one of the biggest names he has met through his father is none other than David Beckham. 

Speaking on growing up around the game, he said: ‘I’ve met all kinds of famous people through him. 

‘When I was younger it was weird because he was just my dad, but we’d go to a game and fans were asking for photos. I’ve met David Beckham, he was really nice.’
