Meanwhile for Brendan, after about a decade away from the spotlight, he was welcomed back with a shower of acclaim for his performance in the 2022 drama The Whale, which won him an Oscar.
Now, the George Of The Jungle star has turned his sights back to comedy with Rental Family, which is about an American actor in Tokyo.
Rental families are a phenomenon that started off in 1990s Japan in which lonely people hire casts of actors to play fake loved ones in their real lives.
In the movie, Brendan plays an actor whose career is floundering, leading him to accept a gig as the stock American in a Tokyo rental family company.
The job gives him a glimpse into the inner workings of other people’s existences, through which the actor learns more about himself.
Brendan is said to have purposely taken his time in deciding on a follow-up project to The Whale.
