Callum Turner and Monica Barbaro Shine in NYC for ‘One Night Only’

One could be forgiven for thinking Callum Turner was out with glamorous fiancée Dua Lipa as he made his latest appearance in New York City on Wednesday evening.

The British actor, who confirmed his engagement to the pop star in July, was accompanied by a stunning, scantily clad brunette while exiting a downtown Manhattan subway station.

Dressed in a short sleeved polo shirt and trousers, Turner, 35, was filming his latest scenes with co-star Monica Barbaro on the set of their forthcoming comedy, One Night Only.

Directed by Will Gluck, the new film follows two strangers and their attempts to have premarital sex on the one night of the year where it is legal.

Shooting in and around an empty New York subway station, Turner and Barbaro, 35, were seen racing through a set of turnstiles while cameras rolled.

Barbaro, who recently played folk legend Joan Baez in Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown, inevitably caught the eye in a glittering silver minidress as she joined her co-star on the outdoor set.

With a distinctive plunging neckline, the form-fitting dress claimed much of the attention as the American actress made her way onto the sidewalk.

Anyone but You director Gluck is aiming for another box office hit with  his new project.

Pete Davidson is also set to star in the Universal Pictures drama as a detective, with the film already scheduled to hit theatres next summer.

Turner’s appearance in the film comes as he prepares to marry pop superstar Dua Lipa, who he recently labelled ‘the most beautiful woman in the world.’

In a new interview with The Times Style, he detailed their first meeting, while revealing the ‘rule’ the pair have that allows them to maintain their relationship amid their busy schedules and long-distance.

Turner explaining they had ‘maybe two, three, four, five near misses over our time where we didn’t meet’, before finally finding each other.

He said: ‘There were loads of things like that and then, when we were both able to, we were both single and whatever, I just thought she was the most beautiful woman in the world.’

The actor recalled how they sparked up an instantaneous connection during drinks for a mutual friend’s birthday, when they were sat next to each other and realised they both were one chapter into reading the same novel, Hernan Diaz’s Trust.

‘In the movie version of it I look up to the sky and I’m like, I hear you. I understand. The signs are loud, don’t worry. And that was really the first [moment],’ he recalled.

One of the biggest pop stars in the world, Lipa is currently travelling the States for the US leg of her global Radical Optimism Tour, which is set to come to a close in December.

Asked about the difficulty of maintaining a long-distance relationship and planning a wedding with the busy schedules, Turner insisted that the pair are able to make it work with their simple rule of ‘it’s never not worth it’.

He said: ‘Well FaceTime is a wonderful thing. And the other rule is that it’s never not worth it — that’s our slogan. If you can go for two days, just f***ing go.

‘And if you’re tired, it doesn’t matter because you’re going to have a nice time and have a nice memory.’

Lipa confirmed their engagement news to British Vogue in July, adding: ‘It’s very exciting. This decision to grow old together, to see a life and just, I don’t know, be best friends forever – it’s a really special feeling.’

In an August interview with Harper’s Bazaar, she admitted to ‘intensely falling’ for Turner, and confessing she is prepared to be ‘vulnerable’ and open her heart to love, even though it is ‘so scary’.

She said: ‘I love love. It is a beautiful thing. It’s a really inspiring thing. You find yourself so intensely falling all the time in the best way possible. That vulnerability is so scary, but I feel so lucky to get to feel it.

‘I’ve spent a lot of time being guarded or protecting my heart, and so I’m letting go of that feeling and just being like, “Okay, if I’m supposed to get hurt, then this is what’s going to happen.” I have to just allow love.’
