Noah penned the role of Jay specifically for the Ocean’s 11 star and said he wouldn’t have done the film had he not signed on.
Notable parallels between the actor and character include their Kentucky roots and illustrious careers.
George told THR about the director: ‘He added the Kentucky thing and a couple of those things as we were shooting.Â
‘He kept looking at my life and adding things, and I was like, “Take it easy.”‘
Viewers will also notice a montage of Jay’s past work, which is actually a collection of George’s TV and film highlights.
‘I was shocked by that,’ admitted the star.

George takes on the role of a movie star who ‘always plays himself’ in Jay Kelly, embarking on a road trip that forces him to finally ‘grow up’
He remarked, ‘When I did Up In The Air, there were all these conversations about how [the character] was very similar to me, and it was — there were things that I had said like, “I don’t ever want to get married again” and all those kind of things.’
It comes after George revealed which two younger actors he thinks will have memorable Hollywood careers during an appearance The Hollywood Reporter‘s Awards Chatter podcast.
While there, he discussed young stars who have gotten his attention, naming both Zendaya, 29, and Glen Powell, 37.
He said, ‘I think Zendaya can do television, she can do commercials, she can do movies, she seems to have that ability to rise above it.’
The longtime leading man went on to name Glen, mentioning the similar timeline of their careers.
‘I think Glen Powell is doing interesting stuff as a young actor; he’s kind of hitting around the time I hit, and he seems to want to direct and produce and write and do all of those things with a little bit of humor about himself, which I think is an element that’s important if you look back. I’m not ready to call it all dead yet,’ George noted.
