Locked Up singer Akon found himself living through his own lyrics when he was arrested in Georgia and jailed for six hours last week.
The bizarre case stretches back to January 2023 when Akon, 52, whose real name is Aliaune Thiam, had his driver’s license suspended for a failure to appear.
Then this September, Akon was driving in Georgia when his Tesla Cybertruck broke down and the police purportedly stumbled upon him stuck in the middle of the road.
According to law enforcement, they discovered at that point that he was driving with a suspended license, for which they gave him a citation, via TMZ.
Two months later, he was arrested on a related bench warrant last Friday outside a location of the car styling shop Tin World in the Atlanta suburb of Chamblee.
The business’ security cameras were equipped with automatic license plate reader (ALPR) technology, which determined his car was registered to someone with an warrant, leading police to be called to the scene, per Fox 5 Atlanta.

He was reportedly tranquil during his arrest, confirming that he knew about his bench warrant and acceding to the officers’ orders, according to the Chamblee Police Department arrest report obtained by the Independent.
Akon’s mugshot was taken, showing him looking emotionless in a black hoodie, and he was jailed for six hours before being released.Â
In September, Akon was driving in a different Atlanta suburb called Roswell in his white Tesla Cybertruck, which stopped working on Holcomb Bridge Road.
Police officers who were on patrol then happened upon the Senegalese-American singer, who apparently told them that his car battery had died, per law enforcement.
Although the police assisted him by calling to have his car towed, they also found out while waiting for the truck to arrive that Akon’s driver’s license was suspended, and as a result the Lonely singer was given a citation.
The police report noted further that an ‘illegal vape in the center console was seized during the inventory and submitted for destruction.’
Akon is said to have been released from the scene in September, but the Cybertruck he broke down in on Holcomb Bridge Road was allegedly impounded.
Then last week on November 7, Akon visited a car styling business called Tint World at another Atlanta suburb called Chamblee and ran afoul of the security system.

Tint World was apparently equipped with Flock Cameras, which used automatic license plate readers (ALPR) to inform the police that Akon’s car was registered to someone who had an out-of-county arrest warrant.
According to the Chamblee Police Department, its officers arrived at the shop not long after 11am to discover Akon standing outside his automobile.
They confirmed that he was in fact the person the car was registered to, then apprised him of his bench warrant and arrested him.
On the legal front, Akon also recently began divorce proceedings, as his estranged wife Tomeka Thiam filed to end their marriage in September, via People.
Akon and Tomeka, who share a 17-year-old daughter called Journey, were four days shy of their 29th wedding anniversary when she submitted papers to dissolve their union on grounds of ‘irreconcilable differences.’
The Ghetto hitmaker is a devout adherent of Islam, which traditionally allows a man up to four wives, and he has expressed a belief in polygamy.
He explained that the practice ‘looks normal’ to him because ‘we didn’t go outside of our African culture when we got to the Western world,’ in an interview on The Zeze Mills Show during which he also revealed he has nine children.
There have been conflicting claims over the past few years about precisely how many wives Akon has, with varying reports saying he has either two or four.
