Devil Wears Prada Fans React to Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep’s 20-Year Reunion

Anne Hathaway sent fans into overdrive after releasing the first official teaser for the long-awaited sequel to The Devil Wears Prada.

On her 43rd birthday, the Oscar-winning actress gave fans a sneak peek of her return as Andy Sachs, opposite Meryl Streep’s iconic Miranda Priestly, nearly two decades after the original film.

‘It’s everyone’s birthday,’ Hathaway teased in her caption, a playful nod to the film’s devoted fanbase, who have waited 19 years for a follow-up to the 2006 classic that became a cultural phenomenon.

The clip was set to the sound of Madonna’s Vogue and began with Miranda strutting down the halls in a pair of red studded Valentino heels.

The montage also featured a bottle of champagne popping and flashes of a fashion show.

The rest of the teaser shows the two stars inside the Runway Magazine elevator.

As the doors slide shut, Miranda turns to Andy and greets her by saying: ‘Took you long enough.’

Although Miranda was notoriously ruthless in the first film, the brief exchange hints that their dynamic has softened over time.

In response, Andy smiles warmly and slips on a pair of oversized black sunglasses – a clear nod to Miranda’s signature look.

Within minutes, the post was flooded with comments from ecstatic fans.

‘I CAN NOT WAIT. Ugh, May, so long,’ one wrote.

Another added, ‘Simply ICONIC! Happy birthday queen – you know how this THRILLS us.’

A third gushed, ‘SCREAMED SO LOUD.’

The sequel is slated for a May 2026 release, marking exactly 20 years since the original took audiences behind the glossy yet cutthroat world of high fashion.

While official plot details remain under wraps, reports suggest the story will follow Miranda as she grapples with the modern challenges facing print magazines.

According to early teasers, she’ll be forced to reconnect with her former assistant Emily Charlton (Emily Blunt), now a powerful executive at a luxury fashion label, as she scrambles to secure crucial advertising deals.

When the first film came out, Emily’s character was rumored to be inspired by former Vogue writer Victoria ‘Plum’ Sykes, who herself has strenuously denied as much.

Miranda’s character, however, is thought to be inspired by American Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, who announced she would be stepping down from her role in June after 37 years.

The original Devil Wears Prada wasn’t just a box office smash – it cemented itself as a cultural touchstone, turning Streep’s Miranda Priestly into an instantly iconic character and inspiring a generation of fashion lovers to whisper, ‘That’s all.’

The original scored two Academy Award nominations, including Best Actress for Meryl, who also took home the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Motion Picture Musical or Comedy.

It earned five BAFTA nods, three Golden Globe nominations overall, and cemented itself as one of the defining comedies of the 2000s.

David Frankel and Aline Brosh McKenna, the director and writer, respectively, of the original movie, have been enlisted for the same jobs on the sequel.

The Devil Wears Prada is based on the novel by Lauren Weisberger and was published in 2003.

It has since been made into a musical, starring Vanessa Williams as Miranda Priestly and with music by Elton John.
