Kelly Brook has revealed why her seven-year relationship with actor Jason Statham ended, admitting she ‘fell out of love with him’ after being left ‘neglected’ when his Hollywood career began to flourish.
The former model, 45, who is set to enter the I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here! jungle on Sunday, began dating the movie star, 58, in 1997, with the pair even getting engaged before their split in 2004.
And appearing on the latest episode of How to Fail with Elizabeth Day, Kelly detailed how the romance fell apart, explaining she ended things after he failed to show up for her, the way she did for him.
Talking about how she’d changed as she’d gotten older, she admitted she had previously been a ‘people pleaser’ that didn’t put herself first, but had learned to be more ‘selfish’.
She said: ‘I have been in the past such a people pleaser and wanting to be friends with everyone and wanting to be there for everyone and not putting myself first.
‘It hasn’t served me so unfortunately, as I get older, I’ve become more of a selfish b***h and I don’t really care anymore.’

Elizabeth then asked how her ‘people pleaser’ nature had played out in her love life, before she met her now-husband Jeremy Parisi in 2014.
Kelly admitted that during her seven-year relationship with Jason, she ended up putting her own career on hold in order to help his succeed.
She said: ‘I think definitely in my first relationship there was definitely elements of co-dependency. There were elements of me putting my career and my life on hold.
‘I had a really good job at MTV. I remember I was hosting a daily show there, and it was just after I’d got fired off The Big Breakfast and I got a really great show there and I was there for about a year and my boyfriend at the time was an actor.
‘I remember he got offered a few roles in things, as like a bouncer on the door at in EastEnders doing something and he had so much talent and charisma and I was like, “Do you know what? We just got to go to America. I just think it’s going to be the making of us if we just go”.’
She went on to explain that after moving to Los Angeles, Jason soon began to find success on the silver screen, eventually becoming one of Hollywood’s biggest action stars, with her as his ‘support network’.
However, she confessed that while his career skyrocketed, her own ‘floundered’, admitting that she felt ‘neglected’ when he failed to give her the same support that she’d given him.
She recalled: ‘But I had this really good job and we had no money and I quit my job and we went and I was there as this support network for him and watched his career flourish, whereas mine floundered a bit because I didn’t have the same opportunities.

‘I was just flying back and forth between the UK and LA and it was quite taxing and expensive and it was exhausting.
‘His career just took off and it just became the most incredible thing because I did so much and didn’t look after myself, I just felt so neglected in that dynamic and to the point where I actually fell out of love with him in the end because he hadn’t showed up for me like I’d showed up for him, I didn’t feel.’
She explained that she made the call to end the relationship because she felt Jason ‘didn’t know who I was anymore’, and while it was difficult it was ‘the best decision’.
Kelly said: ‘So we broke up and I think he just turned around to me and was like, “Why are you leaving now? Look I’m a movie star and I’m a millionaire, why now?”
‘And I was like, “You just haven’t been there, you haven’t been there for me and I need to become a woman. During this process, I’ve become a woman and I don’t think you know who I am anymore. You know the girl that quit MTV and came with you, but you don’t know the woman”.
‘So it was just a really hard time, but I think that was the first time where I really did something for myself and it was the best decision.’
After alluding to the identity of the ex-boyfriend in question, Kelly confirmed to Elizabeth that it had been Jason.
Jason went on to find love with Victoria’s Secret model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in 2010, with the pair now engaged and parents to children, Jack, eight, and Isabella, three.

When speaking about her failed romance with the movie star, Kelly hasn’t shied away from voicing her anger and criticism.
Back in 2019, she complained after her now ‘multi-millionaire action hero’ ex was brought up on her Heart FM Breakfast Show by her co-host Ashley Roberts and declared he’d been ‘skint’ when she’d been with him.
Reading out the day’s showbiz news, Ashley announced: ‘Hobbs and Shaw is out today and Jason Statham is multi-millionaire action hero with a supermodel fiancé and a star of one of the biggest film franchises in the world…’
Kelly cut across to beg the showbiz expert to stop talking, saying: ‘Ugh! Can we just stop? These are all the things you do not want to hear about an ex-boyfriend.’
After sulkily reeling off the list of attributes about the Hollywood actor, she also mimicked shooting herself in the head.
Surprised, Ashley then asked: ‘Wait, catch me up, you dated him?’ to which Kelly responded: ‘Let’s not go there Ashley, he was skint when I was there. Trust me.’
Meanwhile in 2014, she referred to Jason as a ‘pig’ and claimed that he had reached out to her to tell her he loved her, during a brief split from Rosie.
Brutally slamming her previous partners which include fellow actor Billy Zane and former rugby star Danny Cipriani, Kelly said her exes all had one thing in common – ‘They’ve all been on their a***s when I met them.’
Back in 2019, she complained after her now ‘multi-millionaire action hero’ ex was brought up on her Heart FM Breakfast Show by her co-host Ashley Roberts and declared he’d been ‘skint’ when she’d been with him
She told Weekend Magazine: ‘They didn’t have a career or they were at the end of one career and trying to start something else. I met them all at not a very good time for them and that’s my fault for being nurturing, for being like Mary Poppins.
‘They were all either in debt, or had no job, or they were figuring out what to do. Jason was at the end of his career as a diver when I met him. He wanted to be an actor.’
Kelly said that whenever she tried to talk to Jason about getting married or having a baby he didn’t want to commit, and admitted that this was partly why she got swept up in a romance with Billy after meeting on the set of Survival Island in 2004.
She said: ‘Jason was my first love. Billy was never going to be somebody I wanted to spend my life with. It was a fling. I knew the relationship with Billy would either make us or break us, and it broke us. Jason says even to this day, “It was my ego. I couldn’t get my head around it”.’
She then went on: ‘I know that for many years afterwards he wasn’t happy. Neither of us were.
‘Part of us will always love each other and there have been times… for instance, last year when the Danny thing was ending, Jason called out of the blue and said, “I still love you so much”, and I said “I still love you.” We’ll always still love each other.
‘Then I read the next day that he’d broken up with Rosie so it was obvious why he called. I don’t want to be a crutch for someone and I thought it was a genuine phone call.’
Kelly fumed: ‘Men are such pigs. He and Rosie got back together and I haven’t heard from him since.’
