He’s been hot on the promotional trail for The Golden Bachelor for months – never shying away from a red carpet or radio interview to plug Nine’s shiny new franchise.
So when Barry ‘Bear’ Myrden failed to turn up to Crown Oaks Day – one of the prime events on the Spring Racing calendar – society spies were left puzzled.
Even more curiously, the rest of the show’s contestants showed up in force at Flemington last Thursday.
So, why wasn’t he there? After all, the Golden Bachelor concludes this Sunday.
According to a source, Myrden didn’t join his leading ladies because he was all partied out and a little worse for wear after attending the Melbourne Cup two days earlier.
We also heard he skipped a scheduled filming date on the Wednesday.
When Barry ‘Bear’ Myrden failed to turn up to Oaks Day – one of the prime events on the Spring Racing calendar – society spies were left puzzled. Now, network sources have revealed why. (Myrden is pictured on Melbourne Cup day at Flemington Racecourse)
The Golden Bachelor contestants were spotted at Oaks Day all dolled up – with Myrden nowhere in sight. According to a source, Myrden didn’t join his leading ladies because he was all partied out and a little worse for wear after attending the Melbourne Cup two days earlier
‘He was meant to film at Flemington on Wednesday, but wasn’t prepared’, our spy says.Â
It’s hard to blame Myrden. Anyone in their ‘golden’ years will tell you that a big day at the races after turning 50 usually requires at least two days of rest.
Nine declined to comment.
Still, the Golden Bachelor contestants who did attend Ladies’ Day looked like they had a great time – even without their Prince Charming swanning around.Â
It comes after Daily Mail revealed that Myrden was quite a hit with the ladies during his earlier appearance at the Melbourne Cup Carnival.
He had attended the race that stops the nation clad in a grey pinstriped suit, waistcoat and navy blue polka-dot tie.
A conga line of eager women was seen queuing up at the glitzy event for a chance to meet the dapper silver fox.
An exclusive video recorded by Daily Mail showed multiple women dressed in their finest racing attire, waiting in the sun in the hope of getting a photo with Myrden.

One fan even leaned in for a cheeky kiss with the Canadian-born engineer as she posed for a photo with him.
While speaking to the Daily Mail at the races this year, Myrden acknowledged he had relationships with women following the death of his late wife Audrey 14 years ago – after claiming on The Golden Bachelor he’d been mostly single since becoming a widow.
‘I’ve had a few partners since the passing of my wife and we had wonderful times and they were lovely ladies,’ he said.
‘Very nice, but it didn’t work out.’
He added: ‘I don’t think I was ready. I believe I was still grieving. And it’s unfortunate, they were absolutely lovely, they were tremendous people, but it didn’t work out.’

Meanwhile, rumours are swirling that Myrden may be single months after filming wrapped on The Golden Bachelor in Sydney.
The theory was floated on Triple M breakfast show Beau, Cat & Woodsy.
‘He had a look on his face. Like he has picked someone and either she has rejected him or he has rejected her,’ host Cat Lynch said after their interview with Myrden.
‘You can tell he hasn’t found what he is looking for. I am saying he has found no one.’
Beau Ryan jumped in to say he had his own reasons for believing that Myrden was not currently smitten with any of his contestants.
‘I spoke to [former Bachelor] Matty J, who does the Two Dating Dads podcast, and he interviewed him and yep. We’re saying the bloke’s not in love,’ Beau said.
‘I’m saying he has picked someone but they said “no”.’
