She posted an up-close selfie after having her mane styled by coveted celebrity hair guru Chris Appleton.
Valerie — who recently got candid about body image issues — teased in the caption, ‘New hair who dis?’ but then confessed, ‘(it’s a wig).’
In addition to tagging Chris, she also credited artist Alicia Martinez with applying her flawless face of Charlotte Tilbury makeup.Â
The makeover was complete with a stylish outfit that included a button-up white shirt and black leather jacket.Â

Taking to Instagram Stories, Valerie gave viewers a closer glimpse at her temporary hairstyle.
Across three video clips she struggled to remove the wig, emphasizing, ‘So yes, it’s a wig,’ as she lifted the hairpiece and showed where it was tightly secured at her hairline.
Laughing, she wheezed, ‘I have no idea how to get this off.’
She stressed, ‘There are a lot of pins in here and my hair is glued to my head,’ as she tinkered with the underpinnings.
Eventually the television star was able to successfully detach the blonde extensions and reveal her familiar dark brown hair.Â
Her natural hair was parted down the middle and pulled back into two braids.
She proceeded to rub her slicked, gelled hair and rhetorically ask her followers, ‘Can you hear that? It’s all crusty.’Â

She announced her upcoming book, titled Getting Naked: The Quiet Work of Becoming Perfectly Imperfect, in early October.
‘This is my heart broken wide open. It’s a collection of intimate and vulnerable essays, exploring aging, love, friendship, secrets, and acceptance,’ Valerie captioned a post as she shared the black and white cover image for the first time.
‘I am super excited and delighted (and maybe a tinge nervous) to show you all the cover of my new book, GETTING NAKED,’ she prefaced.
She went on to share, ‘I didn’t even realize how much I needed to write this book until I started. It helped heal something in me that l’m not sure I would’ve been able to do without writing it.
‘My hope and deep wish is that it will inspire you to resist the negative thoughts in your own head, put yourself first, and let go of any judgement you may feel about yourself or what others may try their damnedest to make you feel.’
