Lorde Withdraws from Gig Hours Before Performance Due to Illness

Lorde was forced to pull out of her upcoming show due to illness just hours before she was set to grace the stage at Luxembourg’s Rockhal.

The New Zealand-born pop star, 29 – real name Ella Yelich-O’Connor – took to Instagram to explain that she had to cancel her scheduled show because of food poisoning, which left her unable to stand.

In her post, Lorde confessed that she was a ‘very sick girl’ and explained that her fans could either receive a refund or attend another date as part of her European leg of the Ultrasound World Tour.

Taking to her Stories, she penned: ‘Luxembourg, I am so sorry to have to tell you that I came down with ruthless food poisoning last night, and I’m still too sick to play for you today.

‘I’ve been resting all day, hoping I’d be well enough, but I can hardly stand up, and you deserve more.

‘My sincerest apologies to anyone inconvenienced or upset by this. I can’t tell you how much I was looking forward to it.

‘Our first ever Lux show, first night at Ultrasound EU, our one show with OK Lou, it’s beyond gutting.’

‘Please know that if there was any way I could pull it off, I’d be out there. We are actively working with the promoter on rescheduling, so hold on to your tickets for now.

‘Refunds will be offered if the new date’s no good for you. Thank you for your grace tonight. Love, from a very weak girl.’

Lorde’s new album, Virgin, released on June 27, received critical acclaim and commercial success, debuting at No. 1 in Australia, New Zealand and the UK, and landing at No. 2 in the US.

The singer has also revealed there are unreleased B-sides that didn’t make the final cut of Virgin.

She gave fans a taste of what to expect from the Ultrasound era with a surprise performance at Glastonbury earlier this year – her first live appearance tied to the new record.

The tour kicked off in Texas on September 17 and will travel across the US, UK and Europe before wrapping up in Sweden on December 9.

Support acts joining Lorde on the road include Blood Orange, The Japanese House, Nilüfer Yanya, Empress Of, Chanel Beads, Jim-E Stack and Oklou.

The New Zealand pop star opened up about a tough time where all she thought about was ‘weighing as little as possible’.

The singer spoke in a candid interview with Jack Saunders on Radio 1 earlier this year.

She told how at the start of 2023, she was struggling mentally and wasn’t able to focus on any creative pursuits or making music.

At Glastonbury, she had said on stage that she thought she’d ‘never make music again’ – a comment which Jack asked her to clarify in their interview.

The New Zealand-born star explained: ‘At the beginning of 2023, I was just not in a great way in a lot of ways and I’d never felt more distant from my creativity. I didn’t think I had anything to offer and I hadn’t had an idea in a while.

‘This was a period when I was trying to weigh as little as possible and going to sleep and thinking about food and weight and waking up thinking about food and exercise and that was a creative pursuit, you know…

‘That was where it was all going and at that time I was like I really need to stop doing this because it’s blocking all my artistry.

‘Once that went away it all started to come back!’
