EastEnders’ Shona McGarty Arrives in Australia as Third ‘I’m A Celebrity’ Contestant, Comments on Split from Fiancé

Former EastEnders star, Shona McGarty, has become the third contestant to touch down in Brisbane Airport ahead of I’m A Celebrity which airs next Sunday.

The actress, 34, who played Whitney Dean from 2008 to 2024 on the BBC soap wore a bright pink shirt, black cycling shorts and a baseball cap.

But was notably without her engagement ring after her rumoured split from her fiancé David Bracken and when asked what she would miss about the UK, she said: ‘Not a lot.’

Shona joked to the Daily Mail, ‘I’ve got on the wrong flight,’ when asked why she was in Australia as contestants are not officially allowed to confirm their appearance on the ITV show.

She continued: ‘I’m going to have to ask for directions back now.

‘I really want to see a kangaroo, I’ve never seen one in my life.’

Her arrival in Brisbane Airport comes after she was spotted in Heathrow on Saturday to join the likes of Kelly Brook and Lisa Riley who arrived Down Under on Sunday.

Shona wore a black unitard under a bright pink shirt for her airport attire and sported a fresh set of nails featuring cheeky bug designs as she prepared to face the creepy crawlies in the Jungle.

But Shona’s engagement ring was noticeably missing from her finger after it was rumoured she split from David last month, just over a year after the Irish musician popped the question in London’s Holland Park.

Elsewhere fellow contestant Angry Ginge, real name Morgan Burtwistle, was seen leaving Manchester airport as he headed to Brisbane.

The Twitch streamer and YouTuber, 23, checked in at the Emirates First Class desk as he prepared to board a flight.

It comes after Shona shared a cryptic post about ‘not dimming her light for others’ following her reported split from David.

She took to Instagram on Friday sharing a black and white clip applying make-up, and penned a lengthy caption with lyrics from her new song about ‘finally being herself’ as she marked a ‘new beginning’.

She wrote: ‘I’m finally learning to just be me, no filters, no apologies, no shrinking to make others comfortable.

‘It’s a new beginning, and this time I’m stepping into life with open arms and an open heart. I’ve spent too long second-guessing, dimming my light, trying to fit into spaces that were never meant for me.

‘But now, it’s about freedom, being comfortable in my own skin, owning my story, singing LOUD, with all my flaws, and my fire. This is the start of really living, fully and authentically.

‘From here on out, …I’m .. “unapologetically me”.’

It was claimed earlier this month that the former couple had mutually called off their engagement, but remain on good terms.
