Last month, Britney Spears furiously fired off a series of social media posts, calling out her ‘angry’ ex husband for ‘humiliating’ her with his recent excoriating memoir.
But then all of a sudden, the posts came to an abrupt halt, with Spears’ Instagram account even temporarily disappearing for days.
Concerned fans questioned if she was OK – and not least because the online black out also followed the release of shocking footage showing the star swerving her car across lanes after raising a glass at a restaurant in Thousand Oaks, California last month.
Now, multiple sources tell the Daily Mail that Spears, 43, has been taking a hiatus after reportedly reaching ‘breaking point,’ with the discourse around her wellbeing and ex Kevin Federline’s book becoming too ‘triggering’.
‘She needed to come off social media because she was close to going nuclear,’ one insider said. ‘She was hurt that people use her posts to weaponize her past issues with mental illness to mock and denigrate her.’
It is understood that it was Spears’ own decision to deactivate her account, but the few people she still has in her inner circle encouraged the move, in order for her to protect her peace.

The discourse around her wellbeing and the claims made about her in her ex-husband Kevin Federline’s book became too ‘triggering’ for her
‘She sees everything and it’s super hurtful, and super traumatizing. It’s triggering. It’s really sad, and at the end of the day, she still cares what people think about her,’ said a second insider.
Federline, 47, was married to Spears from 2004 to 2007. The exes share sons Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden James, 19 who have largely been estranged from their famous mother.
The DJ, who lives with their boys in Hawaii, opened up about their children in his controversial tell-all, You Thought You Knew, in which he claimed Spears once bleached their hair down to the scalp, causing burns; knowingly gave Jayden shellfish despite his allergy; and at one point wished both children ‘dead.’
She denied all of the allegations via her rep, who also claimed Federline was only trying to make money off his famous ex after her child support payments finished.
With Spears frequently appearing solo in bizarre dancing videos on Instagram – one of which saw her clutching knives – and rarely pictured with family or friends, fans have understandably voiced concerns over her support network.
So, who is looking out for the Princess of Pop?
Exhausted by all of the turbulence in her life, Spears has been leaning on her longtime confidant Cade Hudson for support, as well as a very small inner circle that also consists of some family members.
‘She trusts Cade more than anyone else in the world, even more than her family,’ said a third insider, adding that he is one of the few people ‘who can talk sense’ into the singer ‘when she needs it, but who can also be a friend.’

Hudson and Spears have known each other for more than two decades, starting out as friends before he took over as her agent. The talent manager, who also counts Paris Hilton as a close pal, is no stranger to posting pictures with Spears on his private Instagram account.
Spears has also featured Hudson on her page, sharing pictures of them on board private jets and on vacation in Mexico in the wake of her split from ex-husband Sam Asghari in 2023.
We’re told Spears is ‘happy to be around him.’
Another insider claimed anyone who wants to contact Spears, has to go through Hudson, as he ‘stands between her and anyone who tries to get to her both personally and professionally.’
But our second insider said despite his ‘very protective’ stance with Spears, Hudson is ‘very much in her corner.’
‘Even the things I don’t agree with, I don’t think he’s a leech like a lot of people she’s been around,’ they said. ‘He seems to have her back when she needs it… the family is pretty cool with his presence.’
Hudson has tried to create unity between Spears, her children and her mother, Lynne Spears.
There was previously ‘bad blood’ after he voiced his support for the #FreeBritney movement months before Spears’ 13-year conservatorship – which saw all aspects of her life controlled by her father Jamie Spears – was terminated in November 2021.

‘I’ve kept my mouth shut for 12 plus years on Britney. Enough is enough,’ Hudson wrote in a private social media post, per TMZ. ‘After getting thousands of death threats, getting water bottles thrown at my head in bars from bystanders telling me I’m brainwashing her – Britney, I’m now speaking up.’
Aside from Hudson, we’re told Spears remains close with choreographers Wade Robson, whom she once had a brief fling that ended her relationship with Justin Timberlake, and Brian Friedman.
Friedman – who choreographed iconic videos like Toxic and Hold It Against Me – previously confessed that he felt a ‘disconnect’ from Spears when she was in her conservatorship.
‘It was difficult for me to read [her memoir] because I wasn’t even aware to the extent of what was going on when the conservatorship was in place,’ the pro dancer, 48, told British host Lorraine Kelly in 2023. However, we’re told that Friedman is ‘still in touch’ with Spears.
The Grammy winner also reportedly talks to record producer and Circus collaborator Claude Kelly as they often share ‘new ideas for songs,’ but as of yet ‘nothing has materialized,’ as well as Paris Hilton.
‘Shas been hurt by people who have sold her out in the past, so she keeps her circle small,’ said our second insider.
Currently, socializing is not a priority for Spears, who is enjoying exercising with trainers, practicing gymnastics and gardening as she takes time out.
For now at least ‘she just wants to be left alone a little bit’.
The Daily Mail has contacted Spears’ representatives for comment.
