Actress Ariel Winter is mourning the loss of her beloved dog.
The 27-year-old former Modern Family star took to Instagram on Friday to announce her heartbreak in an emotional post.
She began her lengthy caption, ‘The last two weeks have been the most heartbreaking weeks of my life…i lost my first baby and best friend Casper.’
Ariel shared memories of her pet, a Samoyed, as she added, ‘He was the most special, funny, empathetic, loving, independent, sassy, clumsy and, of course, handsome good boi.
‘I’ll forever be grateful for the 11.5 years i had with him. He LOVED kids, occasional mischief, a cold floor, walks, awoo-ing at you, photos of himself in his Christmas pjs, his dragon scarf, barking at the neighbor dogs, policing his younger siblings, fish, and a good inner ear scratch, but above all else he loved us more than anything. It still feels so unreal that he’s gone.’
She admitted, ‘I keep thinking the hospital is going to call and tell me a miracle happened and I can pick him up and bring him home.’
The entertainer included a collection of photos of the furry white dog with her and longtime boyfriend Luke Benward.

A devastated Ariel went on to write in her tribute: ‘I hope the rainbow bridge is a beautiful place filled with everything he loves and NO thunderstorms.
‘I hope that he’s happy and cozy there. I hope with everything in me that i can see him again one day and let him know one last time just how much he meant to me and how he’ll always have a piece of my heart.’
Some of her five million fans extended their sympathies in the comments, with one writing, ‘Losing them is like losing a part of yourself. I’m so sorry for your loss, and hope you find comfort and healing in the coming days ❤️.’
Actor Barrett Carnahan offered, ‘A glorious boy worthy of all the love you undoubtedly gave him. So long, Casper ❤️.’
David Arquette was also among the commenters, leaving a single red heart emoji.

In addition to Casper, the actress — a dog lover and animal rights advocate — also cares for five other canines.
She and boyfriend Luke announced on social media that they had adopted a rescue, Cobey, back in 2020.
