Debra Messing is continuing to face backlash for posts she made about Zohran Mamdani, including one appearing to liken him to a ‘jihadist’.
The once-beloved actress, who became an LGBTQ icon for her role in Will & Grace, has outraged many members of her gay fanbase with her posts.
This week, RuPaul’s Drag Race star Katya blasted the 57-year-old star in a fiery statement on X (formerly Twitter).
‘God Debra Messing is such a stupid b***h,’ the performer posted to his million followers.
Other fans didn’t hold back in the comments, with one writing, ‘Will & Disgrace!’
Another wrote, ‘She ruined Will & Grace for me. I’m p****d.’Â

‘Absolutely destroyed my fave show for me and now I can’t watch Will & Grace because of her racist a**,’ added a third.
The Daily Mail has contacted representatives for Messing for comment and has yet to hear back. Messing has yet to publicly respond to the backlash.
However, as the actress was being canceled back home in America, she was also being honored at the International LGBTQ+ Film Festival in Tel Aviv.
Celebrating the victory, Messing wrote on Instagram, ‘To me, the LGBTQ+ community feels like family. It’s been 30 years of advocating, learning, failing, celebrating, challenging, but always moving forward.
‘To be recognized by @TLVFest on its 20th anniversary — in my homeland — is almost too overwhelming to put into words,’ she continued.
‘Israel is the only country in the Middle East where LGBTQ+ live freely and openly, with rights protected by law.’
The actress sparked widespread outrage this week after she shared a controversial comment that appeared to label newly elected New York City mayor Zohran Mamdani as a jihadist.
Messing, 57, reposted a political meme to Instagram from an account called Persian Jewess on November 4, the same day as the New York City mayoral election.

The image captured a voter filling out a fake ballot with two options, the first of which read ‘A Democrat. Just a democrat.’Â
The second option read: ‘An actual communist jihadist. A literal Karl Marx-quoting, America-hating jihadist.’
Her post sparked an online furor as critics hurled insults at the Brooklyn-born actress, describing her as a ‘racist’ and an ‘idiot’.
Messing, who is Jewish and a self-professed liberal Zionist, also shared dozens of other offensive posts about Mamdani on her Instagram page, including resharing social media posts from President Trump.
Prior to the October 7 Hamas terror attacks, Messing was known as an outspoken liberal and anti-Trump activist.Â
She actively campaigned for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, and in 2017 she was honored with the Excellence in Media Award by GLAAD (Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation).
However, she has changed her tune in recent years as her passion for supporting Israel at any cost has increased. Â
One shocking social media post she shared suggested that Mamdani, as a Muslim, was secretly planning to implement ‘mass conversion’ to Islam in New York City.
In another post she shared, Mamdani was referred to as ‘Osama Bin Mamdani,’ likening him to al-Qaeda terrorist Osama Bin Laden.Â

Her posts have enraged progressives on social media, with one writing, ‘I truly hope Debra Messing never gets hired for anything ever again. The way she was calling Zohran a jihadist. The day OF the election. Just a deeply racist person.’
Another added, ‘That was some sort of journey she has posted on her [Instagram] story. I would say meltdown isn’t quite enough of a strong word.’
In addition to be slammed by social media users, even some of Messing’s Hollywood pals have turned on her over her staunch support of Israel during the ongoing war in Gaza.
In July, Marcia Cross called out Messing in a since-deleted comment, writing, ‘Deb, it’s a genocide. I know you thought or think you’re doing the right thing… but it just is not. Please lead others with the truth. You can do it.’
Alyssa Milano has also called Messing out on Instagram.
However, others came to the defence of the Emmy award-winning sitcom star.
‘Glad to see she finally came to her senses,’ one supporter wrote.
‘Good for her. Good for Debra Messing. At least somebody has some common sense. Unlike you, who is clearly brainwashed and highly uneducated,’ another added.
A third agreed, accusing Mamdani of being a ‘communist piece of s**t.’
Messing was once known for her progressive views and became a gay icon thanks to her role on Will & Grace
Hours after Messing’s controversial posts, Mamdani went on to defeat former Governor Andrew Cuomo, who was running as an independent, and Republican candidate Curtis Silwa.
Messing, who has made no secret of her political opinions and is outspoken about antisemitism, had earlier revealed she voted early for Cuomo on October 25.Â
‘I voted for Andrew Cuomo because we need someone with experience to bring our city back to what it should be – safe, the thriving financial center of the world, more low-cost housing, more police to make our streets and subways safe for everyone,’ she wrote.
‘A social worker cannot help someone who is stabbed in the subway.’
She argued that New York City is too large for someone as young as Mamdani, 34, and that his lack of practical experience makes it difficult for him to handle the responsibilities as mayor.
She urged her followers to vote and use their voices to make a difference.
Mamdani has shrugged off criticism about his age and inexperience throughout his entire campaign.
After his overwhelming victory on Tuesday night, he listed the early pledges he intends to move on, including universal childcare, fast and free buses, and freezing rent hikes for tenants in rent-stabilized units.
His broader platform has stressed affordability measures such as a $30 minimum wage, additional affordable housing and higher taxes on the city’s wealthiest residents.
Mamdani’s team and supporters framed the final result as a mandate for affordability measures and a rejection of the attacks that marred the contest.
