Aliens Star Sigourney Weaver, 76, Shares Career-hindering Trait

Sigourney Weaver has an unconventional physical trait that could have hindered her Hollywood career.

It’s her height.

The Aliens actress is a stunning 6ft tall, which is about five inches taller than the average Hollywood movie star.

Weaver told Empire magazine she never hid her height as she shared a story about an early audition.

The 76-year-old star ‘wore these very high “hooker boots”‘ to her audition for the original Alien movie, ‘which meant that I absolutely towered’ over the film’s director Ridley Scott.

‘And more power to him that he didn’t go, “Oh my God, this woman is grotesque,”‘ added the Galaxy Quest actress who graduated from Stanford University and subsequently the Yale School Of Drama.

The New Yorker also told the publication that she used to ‘pray that there’d be some crazy director’ who would appreciate she was 6ft tall.

She is grateful that directors took a chance on her.

‘I always thought it took an unconventional director to think of casting me, and I was able to find a lot of those — it could easily have not worked out like that,’ she said.

The star – born Susan Alexandra Weaver (she chose the name Sigourney) – was taught to embrace her height at a young age.

‘I came from the theatre where that’s all you have when you present yourself on stage — the last thing you want to do is hide as you come on; you have to embrace whatever you are,’ the actress said in her cover story.

‘I had a very short mother, she was 5ft2in or 5ft3in — English, too! — and she used to say, “You’re going to be so happy you’re tall,”‘ she added.

‘And, of course, it was one of the many things I couldn’t imagine when I was a teenager.

‘But I did grow into it, and as my mother was very much an athlete, I have always found that strength in women is so attractive.’

Weaver is at the start of her press tour for the upcoming sci-fi epic Avatar: Fire and Ash.
