Homer Laffoon Reaches Pact with Anne Heche’s Creditors After Her Death

Anne Heche’s son Homer Laffoon has reached a ‘tentative agreement’ with the late star’s creditors more than three years after her tragic death, according to his lawyer.

The Emmy-winning actress died at the age of 53 in August of 2022 from injuries she suffered after she careening a Mini Cooper into a Mar Vista, California home.

Heche is survived by son Homer, 23, from her former marriage to Coley Laffoon, 52, and son Atlas, 16, with former partner James Tupper, 60.

In more than three years since the horrific crash, Heche’s estate has been sued by  three parties over damages from the incident, as well as in regards to unsettled business issues the actress had at her time of death.

Homer on Monday requested six months from the court to conclude the business matters stemming from claims tied to the crash, US Weekly reported after reviewing documents in the case.

Homer’s attorney said in legal docs that Heche’s death occurred under ‘relatively unusual circumstances’ and this led to a significant potential for litigation.

In turn, Homer’s lawyer said he had ‘to devote a substantial amount of time to evaluating claims and negotiating a potential settlement to move the administration forward.’

Homer ‘has secured a tentative agreement that will need Court approval, once finalized,’ his lawyer said.

Heche’s eldest son ‘is cautiously optimistic that the creditor claims can all be resolved without litigation,’ his attorney said in court docs.

Laffoon said in documents submit to the court that three claims were filed in connection with the August 2022 crash that led to his mother’s death, including claims from two of the homeowners and the renter of the home, the outlet reported.

Each party is asking for more than $2 million, the outlet reported, citing legal documents.

Boogie Nights actor Thomas Jane, who formerly dated Heche, also filed a claim saying that he loaned her $157,000 in the months prior to her death.

Homer told the court Heche still has ‘various sources of income from entertainment royalties that, coupled with a lack of records,’ has ‘created difficulty in marshalling the income into the estate.’

Homer’s attorney said he had turned in ‘the appropriate paperwork with SAG-AFTRA to take possession of royalty payments made to [Heche] or her business entities for her prior works in the entertainment industry.’

In the deadly incident more than three years ago, Heche suffered severe burns after the impact triggered a fire she wasn’t freed from for around 45 minutes, according to Los Angeles City Fire Department records.

In the direct aftermath of the crash, Heche was initially transported to the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center emergency room, and subsequently taken to Grossman Burn Center at West Hills Hospital and Medical Center.

Heche was being probed for felony DUI in the incident, but authorities scuttled any legal maneuvers in that vein following her passing.

The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner ultimately determined Heche’s cause of death was as result of injuries from the auto accident.

Heche suffered inhalation and thermal injuries, a fractured sternum, a lacerated kidney and severe burns to more than 10 percent of her body, coroners said.

Homer was named the executor of Heche’s estate after battling in court with James Tupper over who would fill the role in the wake of Heche’s untimely passing.

Heche had won a Daytime Emmy award for her work on the soap opera Another World.

She went on to appear in a number of high-profile late 90s films, including Donnie Brasco, Wag the Dog, Six Days Seven Nights and Psycho.

Heche did not appear to be on good terms with DeGeneres in the years before her death.

She said on a June 2021 podcast that she warned DeGeneres’ now-wife Portia DeRossi (who she knew from working with on the Fox series Ally McBeal) that dating the comic/talk show host was a bad idea.

Following Heche’s death, DeGeneres said on social media, ‘This is a sad day. I’m sending Anne’s children, family and friends all of my love.’
