Brad Pitt Sues Angelina Jolie for Million Over Château Miraval Dispute

Brad Pitt’s push for previously undisclosed communications between himself and ex-wife Angelina Jolie to be released has taken a another turn, with an email exchange that alleges he is suing her for $35million.

The Oscar-winning star is embroiled in a bitter court dispute with Jolie regarding the sale of their sprawling French winery, Château Miraval, originally bought by the couple in 2011 for an estimated $60million.

Jolie, 50, who initiated divorce proceedings against Pitt in 2019, has since been accused of breaching of a prior agreement that neither party would sell their share of the property without the other’s consent.

New court documents detailing a November 2023 email exchange between the couple’s legal representatives, submitted on October 29 and obtained by PEOPLE, reveal Pitt, 61, filed to sue his ex-wife for $35million as a result.

‘The burdensome nature of any production is a matter of Mr. Pitt’s own creation – he is suing Ms. Jolie for $35 million in damages,’ reads one extract from the exchange.

‘As a result, he has to incur the expense of producing the documents that will show (or not show) those damages.’

An earlier email, sent by Jolie’s legal team in October 2023, warned that he was intent on “seeking ongoing damages for alleged harm to Miraval’s ongoing operations.”

Her layers also alluded to “Pitt’s continuing refusals to produce documents relating to the reasons why he needed his four-year NDA covering his personal misconduct,” claiming they were “the heart of our case and must be produced.”

Jolie has previously claimed the actor wanted her to sign an expansive non-disclosure agreement that would prevent her from speaking publicly about his alleged verbal and physical abuse – notably towards the actress and their adopted children as they travelled aboard a private jet in 2016.

Pitt and his legal team have since claimed the NDA was standard business protection in relation to Miraval and its sale.

The actor originally launched court proceedings against Jolie in 2022 after claiming she had breached the terms of her agreement by selling her stake in the property to Tenute del Mondo, the wine division of the Stoli Group.

Jolie subsequently disputed the existence of a pre-sale agreement and launched a counter-suit against her former husband.

The actress also claimed attorney-client privilege in her refusal to submit previously undisclosed communications over the sale and its ongoing fallout, resulting in Pitt filing for the release of 22 documents on October 29.

Jolie ‘is abusing the privilege to bury critical documents that go to the heart of the case,’ attorneys for the Oscar winning actor argued in the court filing.

Pitt and Jolie originally met after being cast as husband and wife assassins in the 2005 film Mr & Mrs. Smith – while he was still married to actress Jennifer Aniston.

They are parents to six children, Maddox, 24, Pax, 21, Zahara, 20, Shiloh, 19, and twins Vivienne and Knox, 17.

The former couple separated in 2016 following an 11-year relationship and five-year marriage, with their divorce finalised eight years later following a number of legal battles.

Paul Murphy, Jolie’s counsel told the Daily Mail: ‘Mr. Pitt’s reply brief does not address our arguments and continues to rely on conjecture and speculation – all for the purpose of invading her privileged communications with her lawyers.

‘This once again confirms that this lawsuit is the manifestation of Mr. Pitt’s years-long effort to harass and control Angelina. We look forward to the upcoming hearing.

A public hearing is scheduled for December 17.
