Jennifer Lawrence is explaining why she’s taken a step back from talking politics this year, amid President Donald Trump’s second term.
The Academy Award-winning actress, 35, chat with The New York Times’ The Interview podcast Saturday, and was asked if she would continue to push political causes she holds dear as she did during Trump’s first term from 2017-2021.
The Indian Hills, Kentucky-born star replied, ‘I don’t really know if I should – the first Trump administration was so wild, and just how can we let this stand?’
Lawrence said she felt like she ‘was running around like a chicken with [her] head cut off.’
Lawrence said that recent election results indicate people don’t care what Hollywood’s saying when they enter the ballot booth.
‘As we’ve learned election after election, celebrities do not make a difference whatsoever on who people vote for,’ the Silver Linings Playbook star said.

Lawrence said by presenting a controversial opinion, she would be adding to the negative discourse that’s already impacting the nation.
‘So then what am I doing?’ the Die My Love star said. ‘I’m just sharing my opinion on something that’s going to add fuel to a fire that’s ripping the country apart.’
Lawrence said Americans ‘are so divided’ amid the contemporary political landscape.
Lawrence said and she didn’t want to prevent potential moviegoers from seeing a film she did that could ‘change consciousness or change the world’ by stating a controversial political opinion.
The Hunger Games star explained: ‘I want to protect my craft so that you can still get lost in what I’m doing, what I’m showing.
‘If I can’t say something that’s going to speak to some kind of peace or lowering the temperature or some sort of solution, I just don’t want to be a part of the problem.’
Lawrence said she doesn’t ‘want to make the problem worse.’
Lawrence said she hope to make her thoughts on the world clear through her work, as she has a production company called Excellent Cadaver that has been doing documentaries about topics such as abortion and issues abroad.

‘A lot of movies coming out from my production company are expressions of the political landscape, and that’s how I feel like I can be helpful,’ Lawrence said.
Lawrence last year indicated in an interview with people that she would be voting for Democratic candidate, ex-Vice President Kamala Harris, when she took on Trump after ex-President Joe Biden dropped out.
‘Abortion is literally on the ballot,’ she told People in September of 2024. ‘I’m voting for Kamala Harris because I think she’s an amazing candidate and I know that she will do whatever she can to protect reproductive rights.
‘That’s the most important thing, is to not let somebody into the White House who is going to ban abortion.’
