Gladiators star Matt Morsia has revealed his struggle with an eating disorder after he chased his Olympic dream.
The owner of Morsia fitness app, who turned 38 in January, joined Gladiators as ‘Legend’, a name he chose because of his past and how he has overcome it.
Speaking to The Mirror, he recalled how he was caught in a cycle of starvation and bingeing while vying for a spot at the 2012 London Games.
In the candid chat, the former triple jumper acknowledged how he became unfit for training, due to his extreme calorie restriction.
He admitted to almost starving himself during the week in preparation for events, followed by uncontrollable binge-eating episodes, often starting with a box of doughnuts after competitions.

The Gladiator nicknamed ‘Legend’ told how he was caught in a cycle of starvation and bingeing, while vying for a spot at the 2012 London Games
Recalling those times, Matt said: ‘I would put away 10,000 calories a day over those weekends.
‘Sometimes I felt so full, I could hardly move and would lie on my bed feeling like I was going to vomit. I remember thinking it was weird at the time but I felt powerless to stop it.’
Despite his lean physique, he said that he felt compelled to starve himself for nearly two-weeks in order to match the size of his rivals, revealing that some athletes still do this and are putting their well-being at risk.
In his 2020 book, ‘The 24/7 Body,’ he described binge eating as a compulsion and an illness and highlighted the lack of support for some young athletes in sports.
He wrote: ‘There’s a total lack of support for young people in a lot of sports, many of which encourage – if not actively then implicitly some kind of starvation or significant restriction of diet and I certainly fell into this trap.’
Matt who dreamed of representing Great Britain in the Olympics saw his journey for the 2012 qualifiers come to an end after he injured his back.
After a short break, he took up powerlifting and won a silver medal at the 2016 European Championships.
Now a father of two, to Luca and Maura who he shares with wife Sarah, Matt often posts pictures of his physical transformation journey on Instagram.
