Paul C. Brunson has admitted he’s annoyed with how Married At First Sight UK has turned out and claimed that himself and the team need to ‘do better’.
The TV star, 49, is an expert on the hit reality show – alongside Mel Schilling and Charlene Douglas – which sees strangers tie the knot on their first meeting before going through a series of challenges as a couple.
Yet the show has come under fire in recent weeks, with many slamming the decision to let Ella Morgan and JJ Slater make a bombshell return as a new couple after cheating on their original spouses.
Fans expressed their anger the couple were allowed to return to the E4 show, claiming it went again the ‘spirit’ of the experiment.
One viewer reached out to Paul on X – formerly known as Twitter – claiming: ‘I just feel the whole show is a sham. They are about viewership, not relationships.’

Admitting that things need to improve, Paul responded: ‘I read nearly all of your comments, take notes on areas we need to improve, and share them with production as well as the channel. That said, I believe the show strikes a balance.
‘#MAFSUK delivers more relationships than any other dating/love show and our viewership continues to grow.
‘So, do we need to do better, yes. Are we sham, far from it. I just feel the whole show is a sham. They are about viewership, not relationships.’
In a series of further messages posted to the microblogging site, the Celebs Go Dating host admitted that he does tune into the likes of other dating shows like Love Island.
This is so he can avoid the prospect of ‘mimicking’ other hosts like Maya Jama or Fred Sieriex.
But he did admit that he found it ‘interesting’ that viewers seemed to be able to change their opinion on contestants so frantically when tuning into the E4 show.
He said: ‘What I find most interesting about #MAFSUK this year is how strongly against a contributor a viewer can be and then, within a few episodes, be their biggest fan.
‘I don’t watch any dating/love shows other than MAFSUK & Celebs Go Dating. Not out of disrespect but so that I don’t inadvertently mimic anything I see.’
Former Love Island contestant Amy Hart, 30, was quick to weigh in on the debate, as she lamented that there had been a significant amount of spoilers in this year’s batch of episodes.
She wrote: ‘Film it 2 weeks ahead of TX and then send them on holiday without their phones for the last 2 weeks…sooo many spoilers this year!’

Paul previously hinted that he wasn’t on board with the decision to allow Ella and JJ to reenter the experiment.
A fan tweeted him: ‘Can’t watch Ella justify her behaviour. @PaulCBrunson – I can’t believe the experts have allowed this to happen. Why are we validating poor behaviour? Just for ratings? #MAFSUK’
Paul then responded: ‘There are many people that make the decision and we don’t all agree. That’s all I have to say on this matter. #MAFSUK’
Earlier this year, love expert Paul teased that the new series of the show was ‘not for the faint hearted’ as he took a swipe at the programme’s ITV2 rival.
Speaking to The Sun, Paul said: ‘I believe this year of MAFS UK will be the most diverse cast ever in the history of dating in the UK. To me it’s going to be a true cross section of the nation. It’s not for the faint-hearted. I still have to see my therapist throughout this.’
He teased: ‘This year is going to be by far our best series. For those who want to see roller coaster love stories, you’ve got them. For those who want to see couples implode, you got that. For those that want to see how couples compare against each other, it’s there. Wait till you see the dinner parties!’
He added: ‘No offence to Love Island, but this year it seems people want to know when MAFS is starting. It’s coming, guys.’
