Yungblud Thought Rod Stewart Was His Grandfather Until Grocery Trip Revealed Truth

Yungblud Thought Rod Stewart Was His Grandfather Until Grocery Trip Revealed Truth

Yungblud has revealed that he grew up believing rock legend Rod Stewart was his grandfather.

The singer, 28, whose real name is Dominic Richard Harrison, said his mother grew up without her dad present – and his nan was a ‘very imaginative lady’.

Appearing on The Capital Evening Show, hosted by Jimmy Hill, on Monday, Yungblud made the hilarious confession.

Yungblud recalled how his nan used to tell him playful lies when he growing up, one of which was that Sailing hitmaker Rod, 80, was his maternal grandfather.

But the lie came apart when Yungblud was nine years old during a trip to ASDA – where he picked up a Rod Stewart CD and asked his nan: ‘When is granddad coming home.’

The comment from the youngster sparked laughter from nearby shoppers and Yungblud realised his nan had lies and Rod was not in fact his granddad.

‘I’ll give you some context,’ he said. ‘So basically, my mum never had a dad. My nan was always a very imaginative lady, and my nan would lie to me.

‘She’d put me in a foot bath and lie to me and said that Rod Stewart was my grandfather for, like, my formative years. So up to about nine years old, I thought Rod Stewart was my grandad.

‘Until I was in ASDA, right, I was doing the weekly shop with my nan, and I remember by the checkout I picked up a Rod Stewart CD…’

He continued: ‘Yeah, and it was like proper quivering lip, like, “Nan, when’s granddad coming home?”

‘And everyone at the checkout started laughing, started laughing at us, knowing that they caught my grandmother in a blatant lie!

‘And that was the day I found out Rod Stewart was not in fact my grandfather.’

But Yungblud went on to reveal that Rod hilariously reached out to him he became aware of his family tale.

‘I have not done a DNA test, but he did DM me on Instagram,’ he said. ‘He says, “Alright my wee grandson!”

‘And I was like, Rod Stewart, man. He’s got the bants!’

Earlier this month Yungblud was hailed the ‘most rock and roll’ act in years after being seen smoking before kissing a fan and handing her his cigarette while shirtless.

He sparked concern last month at the AMAs when he flashed his armpits and pulled faces while joining Steven Tyler and Joe Perry for snaps.

In a continuation of his wild displays, a clip of Yungblud went viral this week in which he was seen approaching a fan in the front row at his show.

While shirtless, the star was seen taking a drag of his cigarette before leaning in to kiss a fan on the cheek and handing it to her.

The moment caused a stir online, with people saying he was ‘so cool’ and could easily be one of the biggest rockstars in the world.

However they all said they had the same issue with Yungblud, that they didn’t like his music.

They wrote: ‘Everything I see about this guy is like. He’s the greatest studier of what actually makes rockstars. its unfortunate about the .. you know… music part,’;

‘I don’t know who this is but it’s the most rock n roll thing I’ve seen in 30 years,’;

‘Love this guy so much, he could easily be the biggest rockstar in the world if his music wasn’t borderline unlistenable,’;

‘I love everything he has going on except his dreadful music. he needs to fix this,’; ‘He is so cool I wish his music was good.’

Yungblud and Jack Osbourne recently hit back at ‘bitter and jealous’ critics over the rock star’s tribute performance for Ozzy.

He had a very strong relationship with Ozzy after meeting him in 2022, and it appeared that their relationship grew into an almost father-son type bond.

Ozzy tragically passed away aged 76 on July 22, and Yungblud reportedly gave a moving reading at his funeral.

He also performed at the metal icon’s farewell concert at Birmingham’s Villa Park in June amid his declining health.
