Trans Nepo Babies in Britain: Celebrities Raising Trans Kids and Sylvester Stallone’s Wife’s Theories

Ben Affleck, Charlize Theron and Naomi Watts are just some of the Hollywood A-listers who have revealed in the past five years that they are parenting transgender children.

This new openness has prompted some people to question whether there has been a rise in the number of trans celebrity ‘nepo babies’ with Sylvester Stallone’s model wife becoming the latest to wade into the debate.

While speaking on The Katie Miller Podcast, Jennifer Flavin claimed that Hollywood nepo babies are lacking in ‘structure,’ and said that immense wealth could be a factor.

‘I think growing up in a Hollywood home, there’s really no structure because you have this thing going, and you’ve got private planes,’ Flavin said. ‘And you’ve got all these giant homes with chefs and secretaries and assistants and, you know, housekeepers and nannies.

‘There’s just too much of everything,’ she continued. ‘It gets really confusing for a little person.’

Whether or not the number of children of celebrities who are trans has increased statistically, there is certainly a greater  frankness and awareness, which has extended to UK celebrity circles.

Mel B and Tamzin Outhwaite are among the British stars who are parents to trans children, with the latter admitting that she now finds it ‘easy’ to talk about her son’s transition after a period of adjustment and some ‘dark times’.

Here, Daily Mail reveals the UK stars raising transgender children, showing that there is a wider openness that extends beyond the Hollywood A-list.

MEL B

In June it was revealed that Mel B and Eddie Murphy’s daughter had changed pronouns and is now living as a trans man.

The Spice Girl, 50, is understood to be fully supporting of her child Angel’s decision, which has been made public on social media

Angel, who was born female, has changed the biographical detail on his personal Instagram account and wants to be referred to as ‘him’.

Sources have since told MailOnline that Angel has been supported by both Mel and the Hollywood icon Murphy, 64.

An insider said: ‘It’s a decision Angel made and Mel has been understanding, likewise Eddie.

‘There was no big event to mark it. Angel just wanted it to be known what pronouns are now suitable.’

Mel marked Angel’s 18th birthday earlier this summer by posting a loving message.

She also posted selfies of herself with a grown up Angel, who showed off prominent nose and lip piercings.

Mel wrote: ‘Happy birthday to my Angel.

‘I cannot believe you are 18. You are so special and so bright and so talented! I couldn’t be prouder of watching you grow and become the person you are but you but you’ll forever by my babyyy.

‘I hope you keep chasing your dreams and be kind to everyone around you like you always have been, my Angel.’

She signed off the message: ‘Love you always.’

Mel is the mother of three daughters. Her eldest is Phoenix Brown with ex-husband, Jimmy Gulzar. Angel is her middle child and her youngest is Madison Brown Belafonte with second ex-husband, Stephen Belafonte.

Mel and Murphy’s relationship ended acrimoniously. They endured a high-profile paternity dispute, which ended in a support settlement in 2009.

Coming To America and Beverley Hills Cop star Murphy now appears to have a good relationship with both Mel and Angel.

Tamzin Outhwaite

In July this year Tamzin Outhwaite revealed her eldest child is transgender.

The actress, 54, is mother to Florence, 17, and Marnie, 12, with her ex-husband Tom Ellis who she split from in 2014.

But in an appearance on the Parenting Hell podcast, Tamzin told how her eldest child now goes by ‘Flo’ and identifies as a boy.

‘I’ve got two kids. I did have two daughters and now I have a son and a daughter,’ she said. ‘That’s quite easy for me to say now, but it wasn’t maybe six or seven years ago.’

Tamzin had never spoken about Flo’s identity before now but said he first came out as trans when he was ‘about 10 or 11’.

‘The maddest thing is I suppose that it’s not the most interesting thing about him,’ she said. ‘He’s an incredibly funny intelligent boy, and I’m watching him grow into a wonderful human who’s very talented.

‘To see him thriving is just nothing but relief and joy for me really because there were some dark times.’

Tamzin recalled the period when Flo first came out as trans, which she remembers as a ‘very distressing time’.

‘Until you’re going through it yourself with your child, it’s difficult to judge the situation,’ she said.

‘Initially, I would say, don’t be ridiculous. I didn’t say don’t be ridiculous but my mind went, ‘that’s ludicrous’.

‘Working back from that with talking, family therapy, therapy on Flo’s side as well, talking with family and realising you’re not alone.

‘I think if you push back on a kid, they’ll want to do the opposite of what their parent says. I didn’t say ‘you can’t be that’, but it was a distressing time. We worked together as a family and with outside help.’

Rob Beckett, who co-hosts the podcast with Josh Widdicombe, said: ‘You can’t do everything to make them happy. It’s in them and there’s other things at play. Having to let things take their course…’

‘Yeah,’ Tamzin responded. ‘Time and action, but also being sensitive and, you know…. The whole LGBT community get a bit of a hard rap at the moment – it’s quite tough, I think. It is a hot topic.’

Josh said: ‘it’s almost like you’ve been in sync with that topic becoming a public debate,’ referring to the prominent discussion of trans issues in the media.

‘Kind of, yeah. Every situation is completely different, every child is different,’ Tamzin said. ‘It really is less than one per cent of the population.

‘There’s this big up in arms thing. It’s not that common, just because…. But I’m just so happy for him.

‘I’m happy that we’re in a place and he’s in a place that he is just…. I mean, he’s an incredible actor. He’s desperate to be a comedy writer. I was only allowed to talk about it on this podcast.’

Adjoa Andoh

Bridgerton’s Adjoa Andoh has previously opened up about raising her transgender son and becoming a grandmother.

The actress’ son Liam, born the middle daughter of three girls in London, revealed he was ‘a boy trapped in a girl’s body’ while in his early teens.

The 62-year-old, who plays Lady Agatha Danbury on the hit Netflix show, previously told Red Magazine she wants all her children ‘to thrive’ no matter their gender.

Adjoa, who is also mother to daughter’s Jesse and Daisy, said: ‘My feeling is hold your peace until you know of what you speak. Self-harm and death among young trans people are disproportionately high. Why on earth are we creating a society that means people feel so reviled and un-allowable that they would rather end their lives?

‘For me, your gig as a parent is to raise your child up, keep them from falling under a bus and teach them to do unto others.

‘I’m a mother and I want all my children to thrive; it’s a no-brainer.’

She touched on how it felt to become a grandmother: ‘I was never the sort of person who felt like my children had to give me grandchildren, but I was absolutely taken aback by just how much I love him.’

Sade

Sould legend Sade is mother to 27-year-old trans son Izaak Theo Adu, who she shares with reggae music producer Bob Morgan.

Izaak thanked his mother, now 66, for supporting his transition in a 2019 Instagram post.

‘Thank you for staying by my side these past 6 months Mumma,’ Adu wrote alongside a photo of him hugging Sade.

‘Thank you for fighting with me to complete the man I am. Thank you for your encouragement when things are hard, for the love you give me. The purest heart.’

‘I love you so much,’ he added. ‘Queen of queens.’

Last year Sade wrote a song about her son called Young Lion. It included lyrics such as: ‘Young man, it’s been so heavy for you /You must have felt so alone/ The anguish and pain/ I should’ve known.

‘With such a heavy burden/ You had to carry all on your own/ Forgive me, son/ I should’ve known.’

Izaak then spoke about the song saying: ‘Though there was nothing I needed to forgive her for, the lyrics ‘Forgive me, son, I should have known,’ struck a chord.

‘My mum never tried to oppress the boy I silently always knew I was. She always let me be me.’

And the A-list parents whose transgender children are making waves in Hollywood…

Naomi Watts

Naomi Watts proudly supports her daughter Kai Schreiber following the teen coming out as trans.

The actress, 56, shares Kai, 16, with ex Liev Schreiber, 57.

Kai came out as transgender in 2025 on Instagram, after making her runway debut for Valentino during Paris Fashion Week in March.

‘I’m so eternally grateful that I’m so supported as a young transgender girl,’ the up-and-coming model and activist wrote.

‘But there are so many boys and girls like me who can’t say they have the same blessing.

‘Our job is to stand up and support those young beautiful lives, and the @aliforneycenter is helping us to do so.’

Kai’s father, actor Liev has been vocal in his support of the matter.

He also stood by her side at the Ali Forney Center’s A Place at the Table gala at The Glasshouse recently.

The Ali Forney Center is a New York City non-profit which provides shelter and healthcare services to LGBTQIA+ youth experiencing homelessness.

‘This isn’t just about representing the trans community,’ he said at the time.

‘These are people who are being rejected. These are people who are experiencing the harshest version of humanity that we can offer, and some of them are not surviving it.’

‘We got to bear that in mind when we go out there and glam ourselves up and get ready to be seen, you know?’ Schreiber continued.

‘That what we’re doing is actually raising money for a community that desperately needs it.’

‘Kai is embracing her space in the trans community like never before,’ Liev said.

‘Kai is such a fighter,’ he added. ‘It’s important that she goes, “Hey, I am trans”, and, “Look at me”.’

Robert De Niro’s child

Back in May of this year Robert shared support for his transgender daughter Airyn De Niro, a day after she came out as a trans woman.

The Goodfellas star, 81, said he ‘loves and supports’ Airyn, 29, who is one of his seven children.

‘I loved and supported Aaron as my son, and now I love and support Airyn as my daughter,’ the Oscar winner said in a statement to TMZ on Wednesday.

‘I don’t know what the big deal is … I love all my children,’ the cinema icon added of Airyn, who began hormone therapy last year.

De Niro shares Airyn and her twin brother Julian, 29, with actress Toukie Smith, 72. The pair dated from 1988 to 1996.

His words of support come after Airyn did an extensive interview about her coming out journey to a prominent gay, lesbian and trans magazine.

Airyn discussed how she hopes to serve as a role model for queer women of color creating their own definition of beauty.

She sat down with Them contributor Ava Pauline Emilione.

She addressed deciding to begin hormone therapy / transition in November 2024.

‘Trans women being honest and open, especially [in] public spaces like social media and getting to see them in their success… I’m like, you know what? Maybe it’s not too late for me,’ she noted.

‘Maybe I can start.’

And there was a reason she wanted to address her gender identity.

‘There’s a difference between being visible and being seen,’ Airyn says. ‘I’ve been visible. I don’t think I’ve been seen yet.’

On not feeling accepted by the queer community after coming out as a gay man in high school: ‘[Gay men were] ruthless and mean. I didn’t even fit that beauty standard, which is thin, white, muscular, or just super fit, masculine,’ Airyn says.

‘I was always told I was too much of something or not enough of something growing up: Too big, not skinny enough. Not Black enough, not white enough. Too feminine, not masculine enough. It was never just, ‘You’re just right, just the way you are.”

Hormone therapy in November 2024 helped.

‘I think a big part of [my transition] is also the influence Black women have had on me,’ she says.

‘I think stepping into this new identity, while also being more proud of my Blackness, makes me feel closer to them in some way.’

Charlize Theron’s child

Charlize Theron’s trans daughter Jackson, now 12, who she adopted in 2012, came out at a very young age.

She said in 2019: ‘Yes, I thought she was a boy, too. Until she looked at me when she was three years old and said: ‘I am not a boy!’

‘So there you go! I have two beautiful daughters who, just like any parent, I want to protect and I want to see thrive.

‘They were born who they are and exactly where in the world both of them get to find themselves as they grow up, and who they want to be, is not for me to decide.

‘My job as a parent is to celebrate them and to love them and to make sure that they have everything they need in order to be what they want to be.

‘And I will do everything in my power for my kids to have that right and to be protected within that.’

She also has daughter August, 9, who was adopted in 2015.

Jamie Lee Curtis’s child

Back in 2021 Jamie proudly revealed that her youngest child is transgender.

The 66-year-old actress told AARP magazine that her 29-year-old child with husband, Christopher Guest, transitioned from male to female, while revealing her daughter’s new name to the world.

Speaking about the transition process, Curtis said that she and her husband ‘have watched in wonder and pride as our son’ – who was previously known as Thomas – ‘became our daughter Ruby.’

Ruby, is a computer gaming editor, and is the younger sibling of Curtis and Guest’s 38-year-old daughter, Annie, who is a dance instructor.

In the interview, which was conducted with Ruby’s permission, Curtis explained that she has tossed out the ‘old idea’ that gender is fixed and is instead leaning into the idea that life is a ‘constant metamorphosis.’

The actress has previously showed support for trans people going back several years, and in 2017 shared a Huffington Post article on Twitter: ‘Dear Trans Kids. The letter we all wish we had written. (from a trans teacher).’
