Jamie Laing has opened up about his regret of speaking ill of his father Nicholas in a newspaper article which caused the pair to not ‘talk for ages’.
The TV personality, 36, previously confessed that he blamed his father, Nicholas, when his parents got divorced during his early childhood.
Now Jamie, who is expecting his first child with wife Sophie Habboo, revealed his father sent the newspaper article back to him and said ‘I’m so sorry I’m such a disappointment’.
Speaking to Fearne Cotton on her Happy Place podcast, he said: ‘In my 20s, I did a couple of things that I just wasn’t proud of.
‘I spoke ill of my parents in an article once, or my Dad I spoke badly of him and he wrote me a letter and he had the article.
‘Imagine that, imagine your parents and he’s seeing you’ve done an article about you. My Dad, by the way, he never, ever spoke ill of my Mum ever, he never said anything bad against her ever.

‘I’ve never heard him say anything ever in his entire life right, but my Mum more is very dominant and “oh God I had to be the single Mum and all these sorts of things” which is totally fair because she was hurting.
‘My Dad, he sent me an article, it was the article I had done and he had just written on the article said “I’m so sorry I’m such a disappointment”. Yeah, I’ve actually never told anyone that, I don’t think. He wrote that on it and it was just on the thing. I just thought, “man, that’s my Dad”.
Fearne asked, ‘Do you think he wrote it meaning sorry, or he wanted to call you out on it?’
Jamie explained how it was his father’s way of saying, ‘you don’t know both sides’ and that he was ‘really hurt’.
He continued: ‘I think he wanted to say that he was sorry. My Dad finds it hard to be emotional. He really can’t go there for whatever reason, maybe his childhood but he can’t go there.
‘But it was him basically probably to say, I’m sorry, but also to say, I think he was hurt. So I think it was him saying, “You don’t know both sides. You don’t know the true story so if you just say things, it’s really hurtful. I’m sorry that you have that. I represent all these things that you said”.’
He added: ‘And then we still didn’t talk for ages.’
Jamie went on to say he is now ‘really close’ with his dad, who convinced him to have kids as he was ‘really nervous and scared’ before.

Jamie explained how it was his father’s way of saying, ‘you don’t know both sides’ and that he was ‘really hurt’
The former Made In Chelsea star said: ‘I’m so excited but really nervous because it’s a scary thing. Fatherhood is a really scary thing.
‘Parenthood in general is just a really scary thing and for so long, I didn’t know if I wanted to become a parent.
‘I didn’t know if I wanted to be a dad. I liked waking up in the morning and just thinking about going to the gym or walking to work. Yeah, that’s gone. Totally gone. Like that in one second.’
He continued: ‘I spoke to my Dad and I had a big conversation with him. My Dad and I have become really close especially over the recent years, he’s just the best.
‘I said to him “Dad what do you think about having kids?” and he paused and he said “well if I hadn’t had kids I wouldn’t be having this conversation” and I thought when I get to 90 years old hopefully and I’m in my rocking chair or an ice bath and Sophie’s there and we’re hanging out or whatever, you don’t want to look back at life and think I wish I’d done that.’
Sophie announced to fans that she is expecting her first child with her husband, Jamie, back in June.
The loved-up couple tied the knot in a lavish Spanish wedding in 2023.

Earlier this month, Jamie joked he ‘nearly divorced’ Sophie during renovations on their London home, as he shared a new video of the property’s stunning transformation.
Jamie has been sharing clips of the abode as he and Sophie prepare to welcome their baby.
Sharing a video on Instagram, Jamie poked fun at the idea that a home renovation would bring him and Sophie ‘closer together.’
The clip then cuts to Jamie dancing in their transformed bathroom, with the on-screen text: ‘Doing a victory dance because we didn’t get divorced.’
