Sabrina Carpenter Fans Accuse SNL of ‘Sabotage’ After Tech Issues

Sabrina Carpenter fans were left fuming as the singer suffered a tech issue on the latest episode of Saturday Night Live.

Some viewers jokingly accused SNL of ‘sabotaging’ the 26-year-old Espresso hitmaker who pulled double duty as host and musical guest on the hit sketch show.

At one point as Carpenter showcased her comedic skills during a skit, her microphone briefly went off – making it impossible for viewers to hear what she was saying.

The performer continued to say her lines alongside other SNL cast members with the sound to her mic switching back on after a few seconds.

Fans of the songstress jumped to X soon after the incident to share their thoughts, with one penning, ‘Who cut off Sabrina’s mic in the middle of the skit???? They tryna sabotage my girl.’

Another wrote, ‘Brief mic problem. Can’t recall ever seeing that before,’ and one viewer added, ‘Sabrina’s mic went out. Wish we could’ve heard what she was saying.’

But she had given a glimpse at the album cover art a few months before which showed her on all fours in front of a man who was pulling her hair.

The man’s face was not visible in the image as Carpenter looked towards the camera.

At the time, one critic offered their opinion on social media and said, ‘Pathetic. Wtf is she thinking,’ while another added, ‘I get she’s going for transgressive but this is the opposite of transgressive in this era.’

During her opening monologue, the former Disney channel star expressed, ‘Some people got a little freaked out by the cover.’

Carpenter added, ‘I’m not sure why. It was just this: me on all fours, with an unseen figure pulling my hair. But what people don’t realize is that’s just how they cropped it.’

She then humorously explained, ‘If you zoom out, it’s clearly a picture from the 50th anniversary special of Bowen [Yang] helping me up by the hair.

‘After Martin Short shoved me out of the buffet line, saying something like, “Daddy need his mini quiche.”‘

An image of Yang – who was absent from the episode due to attending the Academy Museum Gala in L.A. – appeared to show him holding Carpenter’s hair with Martin Short also cropped in.

Carpenter recently opened up about how she deals with fame during an interview with Vogue Italia last month in September.

‘I feel like I’m constantly changing as a person… what I feel today will be very different in a month. What I create in this moment is made for this moment.’

She also said laughing helps her in getting through difficult times.

‘All my life, I thought that humor was just that. Besides saving me, this kind of wit was a filter that ensured my protection for the future.’

The singer continued, ‘Sarcasm has been passed down through generations. My parents are both extremely sarcastic… and so is my sister. We all have a bit of caustic humor in our blood.’

'I feel like I'm constantly changing as a person... what I feel today will be very different in a month. What I create in this moment is made for this moment,' she explained; seen in February in L.A.

Carpenter also gave special credit to her close friends in being there for her and keeping her grounded.

‘A lot of the credit goes to my friends and my team. They manage my crazy mind. It’s the only way I can stay honest in a world where it’s so easy not to be.’
